Pros

Branding? Temu is a big name

Cons

1. Recruited me from one of the fantastic 7 and promised remote work and match other offer at $180k, lied. 2. Signed offer letter then changed their mind and forced me into contractor role, moved 30% of salary to a tier based bonus that was never paid. 3. Had no equipment/training/remote management from China, no access to their actual data or system, everything was confidential. 4. Paid late every month for a quarter before I left.

Pros

Temu aims to beat your past compensation (they pay well), but you have to be ready for some serious compromises. If you're negotiating, you can get a good bump in pay. The offices in Dublin are well located and since they acquired an office that was going out of business, it has nice existing setup. The team they've hired are nice folks but you're under strict control - passive aggressive style. It's a very different culture that's dictated from Shanghai.

Cons

Monitoring: Employees don't use email. They use an in-house proprietary App called 'Whalek'. You're discouraged from sending or receiving email. All work should be done on instant messaging so the company can monitor you. And emails aren't on any exchange so they can hide / destroy things. Information: No townhalls. No org chart. No explanation of who does what. It's secretive on purpose as the company is paranoid. In China they have 'nicknames' to hide their identity. And all senior management are ghosts zero online presence, no LinkedIn or anything. Basically, you don't know anything, so you can't say anything and you can't ever whistle-blow. Leave: You can't take leave unless you accrue it. So be prepared to go no-pay if you want time off in your first year. Policies: There are NO written policies. No leave policy. No travel policy. Nothing! Temu Service: Basically their model is to flood the market with really cheap goods. So cheap that its not worth returning or complaining about. Chinese Culture: The HQ team in China works a 11/11/6. Basically 11am to 11pm, 6 days a week. You have to eat at the office too in the canteen. They don't expect this in Dublin as its illegal, but you get an idea of the culture. If you're late, in China, you're docked pay. Workstation: They only offer laptops. You have to pay yourself if you want other hardware like a keyboard, mouse or monitor. Health & Benefits: They offer the least possible that they can get away with. Travel: All air travel is economy, which is OK but the meal allowances are so bad. Expect to starve or pay your own way. If you travel to HQ in Shanghai, you get nothing as you're expected to eat at the office canteen. All expenses can only be claimed after you complete the travel and it takes a long time to get reimbursed.
