Regrettable Cap on Technical Excellence

Pros

Great location, colleagues who want to grow.

Cons

Lots of skilled colleagues who want to grow, but are limited by a COO who's bored with his chosen field and fancies himself a technologist, placing himself hands-on with work he's got no training in and should be delegating instead. Puts an impossible cap on technical excellence because the clear, but unwritten, rule is that no one can progress further with a technology than the COO's current ability to pick up that technology and implement it. No one at the board or executive level holds him accountable to focus on the job title he actually holds.

Pros

Physicians are awesome professionals to work with. Members are engaged and actively participate in their association. Good benefits - matching 401k. Good investment in staff development (if high enough level). Great colleagues and nice work environment.

Cons

Bit of "state worker" mentality. Senior staff has been there forever and their ideas are somewhat static. There is no room for growth because employees just won't leave. Probably overstaffed, sometimes not enough to keep staff occupied - some staff should just retire already.

Pros

Working with Medical Practices to improve their processes and help them succeed was very satisfying.

Cons

There was disparity in the management of employees. There was favoritism in the workplace. Salary was low.
