Pros

Laid back work environment Fun people to drink with

Cons

Horrible pay (they grab kids fresh out of college and offer them anywhere between $28k to $32k as an entry level salary). Your pay will increase about $1k per year thereafter. Work is hard to stomach going into each day because, put bluntly, Agora is a spam email business masquerading as a financial publisher. I list Agora's "laid back culture" as a pro, because, well, it is. At least, at first it is... However, as you start progressing through your career, the fun and games start to wear on your psyche, and in a very real way. It's as though you died during your college graduation party, but nobody told your spirit about it. So your spirit just went on and applied for a job at Agora, only, years later, it discovers Agora isn't real. Instead, Agora is a twisted realm of Greek Life Purgatory that you suffer through before you earn your wings.

You'll do great here - if you're a certain type

Pros

- Hands-off management style - Fair compensation - Bonuses - Ability to have a non-traditional schedule

Cons

Rampant prejudice and sexism. I should elaborate; you can also succeed here if you're a young, traditionally attractive woman. Jobs will be thrown at you faster than you can say "Wall Street." As much as this company prides itself on being a "marketplace for ideas" and thinking outside of the box, it really does value corn-fed, homegrown, middle American, Abercrombie and Fitch candidates. Somehow, I was hired, thank goodness(?). And despite expressing interest in moving around in the company and actively applying for jobs within it, I haven't gone anywhere. Keep in mind, people get promoted here like crazy and most can't write past a 10th grade level. On many occasions people go around me for the expertise of my co-worker even though I have seniority and she ends up getting the answer from me anyway. That along with other microaggressions makes this a less than ideal place to work.

We hope you'll consider reaching out to your manager and to our Personnel team to discuss this in more detail. While of course we would never discredit your account, we think you'll find that Personnel is extremely motivated to make sure that great employees are happy, and feel comfortable and fulfilled in their workplace. If that is not the case with your current team and you'd like some support in making a change, that is our best recommendation.
