Pros

Certain staff members, beautiful grounds

Cons

During my time working for this company I was severely unhappy. On multiple occasions I had situations arise with letchy male members of staff and I would report it to my manager and nothing would come of it so I would report to higher management but yet again, nothing would be done. During my time working at the hotel, I was employed as a receptionist. As it was so understaffed I helped on multiple occasions for bar and front of house while juggling my duties as reception! There was no internal prompting, on one occasion I was offered a higher position by my previous manager which was then binned off by my new one!

Pros

Most staff are lovely and friendly

Cons

Seen management treat staff as verbal punching bags, management also use the silent treatment with staff, have obvious favourites no support during family emergencies - actually they complete opposite. Lack of support or training, no progression or growth. Left understaffed regularly.

Hi, I am sorry you would not recommend us at Great Fosters for employment, but I am heartened that you enjoyed working with your colleagues and found them 'lovely and friendly'. That's an important part of any workplace. We currently only have casual vacancies at the hotel so I don't recognise the view that it is short staffed. I am sure during some peak periods, like the recent Ascot Week, the hotel can be extremely busy but we do staff up as much as we can to cover these periods. We always look to promote internally, where that is possible, including to other hotels in the group, where this is practical for the employee. I work directly with management in the hotel and do not recognise the personalities you describe. I am however sorry you felt that you had not engaged well with the management. I thank you for your service and wish you all the best in your new employment. Kind regards Peter Maskens Group Resourcer

Pros

Good people to work with and generally Nice colleagues (most of them)

Cons

•No regard for employee wellbeing – repeated failures to support staff during challenging times or personal struggles • Toxic workplace culture – cliques, gossip, bullying, and passive-aggressive behaviour are common and rarely dealt with • Lack of support or respect – staff are routinely ignored, dismissed, or excluded when raising legitimate concerns • Poor management – many in leadership roles lack basic communication, emotional intelligence, or leadership skills • Some managers should not be in positions of power – power is often misused, with no accountability or professionalism • Blatant double standards – a “do as I say, not as I do” culture where management breaks rules they enforce on others • Punished for being human – staff are penalised or judged harshly for simply talking, smiling, or trying to stay positive during work • No career progression – zero support for growth or development; hard work is overlooked, and promotions are based on favouritism • Hostile communication – being spoken to in a rude, dismissive, or condescending manner is treated as normal • Failure to honour legal entitlements – breaks, rest periods, and fair treatment are inconsistently applied or ignored entirely • Toxic colleagues enabled – unprofessional or harmful behaviour goes unchecked, often rewarded, while good people leave • Morale is consistently low – high staff turnover, burnout, and a sense of helplessness among those who stay

It is really sad to read your review today as only a few days ago I read your colleagues review on the 2nd July which couldn't be more different. I am genuinely sorry you did not enjoy your time with us at Rowhill Grange, and sorry you did not get on as you would have wished. Rowhill has a large number of long serving employees from the local area, from a range of cultures and backgrounds, and many who have progressed from junior to senior roles. I hope you are soon settled in a role that better suits you and wish you all the best. Kind regards Peter Maskens Group Resourcer
