Pros

There were no Pros to working for an organization with antiquated management style and could not embrace change

Cons

Was not able to adapt to an antiquated environment. Management were caught in the early 80’s way of thinking. No fast forward thinking on digital or the way to service its customer same approach year after year.

Pros

The work life balance is good. That's really all that's good here.

Cons

This used to be a nice place to work. The pay was decent and there was perceived value in the marketplace for their products. That has changed. Working here now is the most difficult sales job I've ever had. The print products are seen as irrelevant to most of our customers and the digital offerings are 10 years behind our competitors. Our goals change MONTHLY and while they say there is a formula to how they are calculated I don't see it. Mine has fluctuated as much as 10k from month to month. On top of it all there is a new Director of Local Retail that is absolutely a nightmare to work for. Turnover is high and morale is EXTREMELY low. Everyone I know in every position imaginable is looking for a new career, except for managers. This place is ruled by dinosaurs of the print industry. We need some young enthusiastic leadership to make some real changes or the Observer won't be in business in less that 10 years. The bottom line is that if you're looking for a fresh start don't look here, this is a stale opportunity. Don't walk, RUN!

Pros

-Nice office in Uptown. There is literally nothing else good about this company. Run, run very fast in the other direction.

Cons

-Horrific upper management. Totally clueless. They just push impossible goals on you that are complete nonsense then do nothing to help you achieve these ridiculous sales quotas. -Micromanaged -Outdated equipment, CRM, and products. -Poor commission structure. -No upward mobility. -Unfortunately I did not feel that the other employees were welcoming to new people. Everyone is so worried about their own job they have no time for anything else. -Newspaper industry is a sinking ship. -IT department was outsourced to India. Have fun with that. -Just look at The Charlotte Observer reviews on Yelp. Enough said.
