I was hired by Mayan Metzler, Owner of Leicht NY and German Kitchen Center, to run one of his new showrooms outside of New York city. I had a written agreement with a set salary and commission structure for one year. I had gone to training in New York and then was to go where the showroom was opening. There was a lot of work to be done in finishing the showroom to have it ready to open on an already tight schedule, a lot of company miscommunication and disorganization made this process especially difficult. Then two weeks before opening, Mayan announces a new company wide "re-structuring plan" where he decided to no longer pay any more salaries and make everyone "performance based pay" or in other words 100% commission. Being that most satellite locations were not even open yet and our product lead times were about 3 months, he expected everyone to continue working for free until they could make a sale. Even then only 30% of the commissions due were to be paid at time of sale. He gave no warning of these changes and your only options were to either go along or essentially quit. If you are considering to work for this man, PLEASE reconsider. He will make everything seem perfect in the beginning and then he will screw you over once he has gotten what he wanted.
