Pros

Benefits, paid time off, lots of office parties.

Cons

Agreed with other bad reviews. It's all true. They offer benefits, but they are bad. Cheap cheap. No promotions unless you are a favorite. Don't work here unless you want to be constantly stressed out and undervalued.

Our open door policies and quarterly check-ins are great times to ask for things that help each employee. We do our best to consider and implement changes that help everyone do their jobs better. We provide whatever is asked of us to give everyone the tools to do their job. We have weekly team meetings where everyone is asked to tell us if they are stressed. We have Team Leaders in place to give a lending hand when someone feels they can't do all their work. With all of that in place, however, there are some who do not ask but assume we know what they want and I can't help those who do not have a voice to ask. If you are one of those, please consider that the leaders do not have crystal balls to know what you need if you don't tell us what you need. We are here to support and help. We are willing to hire, and have hired many, to help with the case loads. As to the benefits, most traditional plans are $400-$500 a month per employee. We have a plan in place that is a shared community health plan. It offers healthcare, eye, dental, and a prescription card. TLC pays 90-100% of the costs of those plans for the employees. We receive good reviews from many of the employees and have not heard anything negative about the plan, even though it has been in place for 4-5 years. Again, if the employee does not tell us what is wrong, we don't know how to fix it. Speak to the President, the VP of Operations, your Director, or the Director of HR. We are all here to help make the employee feel appreciated every day!

Dysfunctional: Looks Good on the Surface

Pros

Work is easy but there's lots of it. They offer job titles easily with little to no real authority.

Cons

Everyone is constantly stressed out due to company practices & policies. Ownership & Management are very frugal, so everything operates on a shoestring budget. Management is under-skilled at performing basic office tasks.

Running a service business can be difficult at times as there are restrictions on what you can charge the clients, while, on the other hand, everyone wants to make more money and get raises yearly. We do our best to cut corners where we can while continuing to value our employees and show appreciation by giving raises and bonuses yearly. If you feel you were not one of those employees, I would ask you consider what was going on at the time and what conversations you were having with your supervisors when you did not feel valued. Usually concerns with employment are a two-way street and, while it is easy to post something negative about the company, it is also important to share what you were doing (or not doing) at the time so those viewing this posting have a full understanding of the situations so they can judge for themselves.

Well-meaning, but mismanaged.

Pros

Some of the good things about working for TLC are their flexible schedules, allowing employees to work more efficiently. The office space is quite new, spacious, and clean. For the most part, both management and employees are helpful and competent, to a point. Personally, my supervisor was open and honest, and I enjoyed my time under them.

Cons

Low compensation even by industry standards. This causes higher turnover and resentment in employees. Working conditions and attitudes are highly determined by management and supervisors which run the gamut from excellent to unpleasant. As a smaller company, seniority was often prioritized over competency. Prospective employees should make sure they have a good feel for their superiors because the quality of your work experience will be directly impacted. Recently, TLC was acquired by a larger company, Compex, and this transition has caused significant tension. Pre-Compex, TLC had a "family-type" feel and employees were willing to put up with lower pay and management's idiosyncrasies in exchange for soft benefits. With the recent buy-out, employees now face a losing proposition- dealing with the bureaucracy and impersonality of a larger firm while also suffering from lower pay and the unique brand of office room politics of a small business.
