Pros

Most members of staff are committed but morale is so low at present. I formed some lasting friendships here and became active in my union because of the conditions.

Cons

I worked directly with the CEO and was appalled by what I saw. There is such a lack of respect for staff and unions. Several reports of her bullying were ignored, and she initiated a witch-hunt instead. She openly joked about firing people and lots of staff left due to the awful working conditions. She also swore in the workplace on several occasions in my presence and I’m no prude but felt that was so unprofessional. There’s no appreciation of staff and all they do. Too busy posting unfunny memes and sucking up on Twitter for that. I don’t know what causes her unpleasant nature but she never seemed happy and I assume something is lacking. The main thing missing that’s needed in the workplace is respect and business acumen. It needs to be implemented immediately as a matter of urgency!

Great people, poor management

Pros

Great people to work with, such a small place you can get stuck into all areas of work and give support across departments

Cons

Senior management are truly awful. No one communicates properly and as a result people are constantly stressed and chasing their tails. Certain members of senior management care more about looking good than the wellbeing of their staff, which is reflected in super high staff turnover in certain departments over the last year. They pretended to care about mental health but never helped when they could and only cared about how it reflected on them.

Pros

Amazing people to work with, small museum so ideas are shared and listened to. Great career opportunities as well, with the chance to change departments or support other teams quite frequent.

Cons

Positions are being cut for budgetary reasons so employees are encouraged to leave as the workload becomes unbearable, then when people leave they are never being replaced so the circle never ends.
