      Pros

      Mentorship at The Shafer Group is top notch. They will ensure that you have the technical skills to become a successful Accountant. The people are really enjoyable to work with, and the company atmosphere is very team orientated! Overall the supportive environment promotes excellence in the workplace, and is very refreshing!

      Cons

      Currently, reduced staff requirements due to COVID-19 is limiting availability within the office setting- as most tax staff is working remotely.

      Old school work culture

      Pros

      Helpful and friendly staff. Updated computer systems and software.

      Cons

      Management has an old school mentality. You are expected to be in the office before 8am, and if you arrive at 8:05am, you are written up. Additionally, they expect you to work overtime and show absolutely no appreciation for it. If you are sick, they will call you and ask if you're quitting and bring you in front of the rest of the staff during meetings to humiliate you. Departments are pitted against each other during tax season in spite of a difference in deadlines. Managers are not really managers, more like the reviewers of your work. The owner will consistently go around them in penalizing staff and even go so far as to yell and mock staff out in the open in front of managers and staff. I have NEVER worked for a worse company than this.

      - Friendly work environment - Open door policy - Management is clear, focused, and is genuinely concerned over their co-workers' well-being - Talented and passionate people - Great support staff - Help pay CPA & EA exam expenses (new) - Very flexible summer hours - Awesome working papers - Robust tax software - Great collaboration between departments - Work/life balance is reasonable

      - Need more internal training - Need a 3rd computer screen for a better workflow
