I have been working at TransGrid full-time

    Pros

Very varied role. Different site/job each week (depending on current projects). OT is optional unless an emergency situation. Extremely high safety culture. Awesome benefits, pay and super. Very supportive Employee Assistance Program (EAP). 9 Day fortnight and a good work/life balance. Continuous Training. Opportunity to learn a lot from some very bright sparks in the industry if you possess a... conscientious/positive attitude.

    Cons

Excessive amounts of mandatory paperwork involved with a single job. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. You will not be adequately compensated if you don't actively negotiate and hustle in networks. There are implicit tracks, and it's possible to be tracked onto a slower curve. There is a long, drawn out process involved with skills development. The onus is on you in the end.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at TransGrid full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - The Sydney City office is in a good location - Some of the people are nice - You can be incompetent and still get paid well

    Cons

    - Internal politics makes it impossible to achieve goals - No help from management - Incompetence at mid-level management - Endless paperwork for nothing, you will spend your working life writing reports about nothing to cover yourself - Teams don't work together - Over 100 people being "performance managed" by HR for the slightest misstep, this number used to be less than 10 at any given time. - The teams... are "restructured" every month or so. - Good luck getting your "bonus".

I have been working at TransGrid full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Generally a good culture with friendly, professional people. Good pay, benefits and flexible work hours are available. Interesting work, there is still some effort being put into improving the way things are done. There are still a lot of very long term, experienced staff that are very willing to help others develop their skills.

    Cons

There is a focus on finance/administration and so Technical knowledge is not valued. There is a ceiling to how far technical staff can progress. The future of any technical design staff is uncertain, upper management has publicly stated (in a roadshow) that design is not a core part of the business. Note that my ratings are related to long term technical roles only. There is a focus on other parts of the company... and so please take that into account if you are non-technical or are looking for a short term role.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at TransGrid full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Better superannuation at the expense of a pay rise.

    Cons

Multiple restructuring with no tangible results other than creating lucrative opportunities for those who played the politics to advance their careers. Some Heads are loud and pride themselves in getting rid of other Senior staff who don't agree with them. They manipulate projects to meet personal KPIs, and reward those who are good at brownnosing them with promotions and overtime. Some of them say, "Managers... should spend most of their time 'managing people' and less or no time working". Unbelievable. Diversity is a joke. HR partners only help managers.

See all advertised jobs through instead of constantly changing the goal posts. It does not instill confidence.

    Cons

    Cons

Worst place to work. Sexist Work place with jobs for the boys. No one is given a fair go and despite the policies no one ever follows them nor are they held to task for not following them. Disgusting place to work.

    I worked at TransGrid

    Pros

Can't find anything over my time.

    Cons

Bunch of idiots at the middle/junior management level. Inexperienced middle leaders/managers, micro-management is order of the day. Lack of right decision making resulting in inefficiencies and waste of resources - the reason for ever increasing electricity bills. Most of long serving staff doesn't have managerial/leadership ability and no sense of purpose for the organisation. They are time wasters. Some are lost... in their own world. Lots of processes or lack of processes in some areas. Unnecessary paperwork.

Get better organised. Loose ends and stop fudging the numbers to look good with the regulator and owners.
