Great mission but ethical challenges, invisible board of directors
Pros
The mission. The assets (warehouse, trucks) that come with being a food bank.
Cons
Authoritarian-style management techniques that hail from a century ago; Family members of CEO on payroll (with one working under an alias); Rampant favoritism with mediocre senior management receiving endless promotions and responsibilities; Major questions about financial practices and transparency; Extremely high turnover and low morale among most existing employees; Do-nothing board of directors that provides little or no oversight (or, it appears, very rarely meets); Very little investment in programming and a very dated and under-performing food banking program model; Inability to be an effective community partner (a shrinking number of non-profits and foundations willing to partner with food bank and its awful, local reputation in community)
