Pros

There are a number of genuinely nice and experienced people but they are not promoted enough to take leadership roles.

Cons

There are a lot of egotistical, bad managers running the show. The manager I worked with felt comfortable enough to make condescending comments about my accent, family, cloths and there was no real measure to stop this behavior. The managers constantly take credit for other's work and get promoted based on that. There is a lot of with holding of information and back stabbing to climb up the ladder. In addition, you are expected to stay for 12 hours just to show your presence even if you have no work. The company founders care only about themselves and lack the respect or recognition towards new employees which was cringe worthy. The only way to survive is by being the "yes" man to your manager and swallow all the insults. People don't need swags, they need respect - that is something the company is too young and inexperienced to comprehend. My exit interview was an investigation into if the recruiter was trying to make money rather than knowing real reason for my resignation.

Reading a review like this is not easy. We realize the circumstances that lead to you making a harsh review haven’t been easy either. We’re sorry you did not enjoy your experience at Truebeck. There are always lessons to be learned, and we want to learn them. Most importantly, I want to reply to your experience with “condescending comments” – that is absolutely unacceptable. All team members of Truebeck have a responsibility to treat others with dignity and respect at all times. Every day we work to create an inclusive culture, looking for better ways to train and develop our team members, making them feel part of our Truebeck team. Please reach out to me so we can take appropriate action and ensure this does not happen again. - HR Director

Pros

50% of the people are smart and capable

Cons

1. Managers are way too inexperienced to lead. 2. Work hours are expected to be between 10-14 long days. 3. No credit or recognition is ever given to people who deserve it. Managers take credit for their direct reports work. 4. Their evaluation system is terrible. You'll never get anything high than "meets expectations" unless you're a star performer that sacrifices themselves for the project. 5. They do not care about you as a person. They pretend they are a family oriented company, but it is a lie to guilt you into working more. Their core values even say so "Project first-no excuses". 6. Executive Team is a good old boys club. 7. Project executives are incompetent and don't care about their projects. 8. Work environment is a toxic cesspool where employees are treated like trash and still expected to perform. In short do not work here unless you are in dire need of a job. You'll never be supported as an employee at Truebeck. They value tenure over talent and only reward people who have worked with them for 5-10 years.

I am sorry that your experience at Truebeck wasn’t amazing. We pride ourselves in providing a great place to work, not just compared to other construction firms, but compared to all businesses in the Bay Area. And we have been named by the Business Journal as one of best places to work many times over the past seven years. Regarding your comment about work hours, we know that Truebeck is not for everyone. We have taken on some of the most complex architectural, engineering, and construction feats in our industry. And we love that! We want team members who love that too. We value people who are driven, passionate about what they do, and get things done. While our industry and complex nature of our projects sometimes dictate longer hours, that should not be the norm. We want everyone to have a healthy work/life harmony and are constantly evaluating ways to help with that. Your comment about our Executive Team is just not true. Our team includes C-level, director level, and executive level women leaders overseeing Operations, Preconstruction, Safety, Human Resources, Finance, and Marketing areas of our business. Our Project Executives have managed some of the largest and most complex construction projects in all of the Bay Area. Their commitment and dedication to their clients, projects, and teams, are reasons for our extraordinary success. - David Becker, Co-Founder

Pros

Great employees, made a lot of friends.

Cons

I worked many long hours and no reward- instead, I was told I didn’t do enough after a year of no one on one reviews. It all came down to schmoozing and fitting in a click, I did a great job, since leaving, employees continue to contact me for advice and assistance.
