Toxic - Outdated - Undervalued - Bad Practice -
Pros
Location - hotel setting is one of the best in the world. Guests - great opportunity to meet some amazing people and be apart of some special memories.
Cons
Annualised hours - very outdated system and borders on modern day slavery as it traps you in the organisation as you have no control over the hours you owe and the business does not plan your debt into the business model. Long hours - you will work 10 days 12/14 hour days with no overtime during the summer. And every second minute is heavily monitored. Very much like being at school. Poor pay- taking into account no overtime some months you will work 12 hour days and your hourly rate is always the same 8 hours. And unless you are senior management you do not make national living wage. Undervalued - there are very little perks. You get a coin lunch but it’s laughable. You are not allowed to sit down at this lunch and again there is no bonus from the company in your pay packet at the end of the month. All rewards are all show no substance. All designed to be a PR stunt. But once the GM has his photo it’s back to work. Bad Senior Management - very bad practise. Current GM has very outdated policy’s and run his business like an old headmaster. His office is always closed to colleges. And I have witnessed him shouting at young vulnerable people because he lost his temper or someone didn’t agree with him. There is a very bad practice that the managers brush off his behaviour as acceptable. HR also enable this behaviour, nobody should ever go to a meeting and leave in tears. This has happened on numerous occasions. Outdated policy - very few of the policy’s are actually implemented. During my time no DSE were ever carried out. Very little training was given, and most of what is implemented is outdated by 20 years. Poor HR Team -closed door policy. In my entire career I’ve never witnessed such shocking HR. this team failed on every subject. They serve only the GM and forget that they employ over 300 people. Most of which are made up of young vulnerable people. Instead of nurturing and being a huge part of their journey into a career most come are used and abused, as younger kids get paid less. I could write an entire segment on this alone. They are bullies, who act on their own behalf only. Zero equality & diversion - something very close to my heart. Sadly zero presence at Turnberry. There is currently no lgbtq policy. They have zero interest in any support. Again very poor as a lot of their workforce is lgbtq. During pride month staff are not allowed to wear their pride badge and asked to remove it. There is no viable sign of support to team members or guests.
