Pros

As mentioned by someone else, unlimited PTO so you can take a month off at a time, a few times a year. Little or no supervisory oversight. There are no penalties for not meeting deadlines or not completing your work. Easy and relaxed environment. Job is not hard.

Cons

Environment is very unprofessional. Goes way beyond "fun tech culture." People play around the whole day and don't get any work done, which is condoned by management. Whole team is "blind leading the blind." You don't learn much about privacy, except what's in Truste's narrow and very simplistic point of view, which is not applicable to the real complex world of various businesses they claim to help. Management plays favorites like other reviews mentioned. Obviously sees the few hardworking folks and the folks who do nothing. Yet takes no disciplinary measures as long as you "brown nose." High turnover and layoffs giving an unstable environment. Yet the most unproductive workers who brown-nose are always kept on. Heavily sells on "customer service" thinking that this makes up for their lack of substance. Not understanding that clients want real substantive work, not just a friendly customer service rep. One bad hire leads to more bad hires. Seems to draw a lot of unambitious people that are the same kind. Management very resistant to improvement ideas from subordinates. Management wants to dictate exactly how the subordinates will work. All ideas to improve efficiency are rejected. Management forces you to do things the outdated ways to keep the status quo. There are a lot of useless and waste of time processes. No career advancement. You can get promoted to a new, higher title, but keep doing the same job with low or no pay increase. Role is more like customer service, so there is no "up" to go.

My advice to candidates: read these reviews, but with a grain of salt. We had a bumpy year a couple years ago, but things have improved dramatically and momentum is fantastic. Come talk to us and see for yourself what we're all about. You'll feel the positive energy of the company and our people. People who post on GlassDoor are either thrilled with their employer, or disgruntled. This person is clearly the latter. There is so much that is just completely incorrect. Here are facts to consider: * Our employee turnover in 2016 was under 20%, and it’s even lower in 2017. Employees like it here, clearly. * We have great company culture (not just satisfactory) - it's collaborative, honest, fun, and the privacy industry is both interesting and growing. * We conduct an employee survey every year. We get over 80% participation every year and we act on the suggestions of employees. I'm very pleased with the input, our action, and the overall satisfaction of our employees. * We have an employee engagement/involvement team called the IMPACT Team. These volunteers guide what we do for fun, learning opportunities, giving back (to the community), and for improving our Health (walk-a-thons, etc.). They make a huge impact on how the company operates and address anything that needs attention. Our motto is "Making TRUSTe Awesome!" * Solid benefits. Medical, etc. as you'd expect. Endless PTO (it is not abused as mentioned - we still need to "get our jobs done"). Fringe benefits like our kitchen and many other gifts, events, and opportunities. And more to come! * Events: there are fun things going on at least once a month. My personal favorite is the Giants game where we attend all together. Complete with a pregame lunch and post game happy hour. * Career & Learning opportunities: we pay for professional certifications. We host in house learning events. Everyone has their own Udemy learning account. We value helping people gain knowledge that helps them grow their careers.

Pros

The pro of working here was learning the technology.

Cons

Poor management and overall toxic team environment. Very stressful environment with unrealistic expectations. The training and onboarding program are mediocre at best. People Expect you to work long hours and are very quick to place blame when mistakes are made. In my entire career I've never worked at such a horrible place and some of the peers were borderline abusive. Management was aware of the way people were getting treated and failed to address it. HR had to be notified. I DO NOT recommend joining this team - I would avoid it like the plague.

Wow, we are really sorry for your experience. We pride ourselves on empowering employees to speak their mind, and for everyone to resolve conflict in an upfront way. It sounds like that was not your experience. I’d like to address your comments in order: “stressful environment with unrealistic expectations.” COVID and working from home was difficult to adjust to for everyone. Adjusting to not commuting has been hard for many to figure out how to balance work and life. We are not perfect at this, but we’re designing and rolling out plans to continue to address this. “The training and onboarding program are mediocre at best.” That’s on my team, the People Team. We believe we had a decent program to start, but we are expanding the team as we speak, and we hope to help new hires to understand our industry and company in a more supportive and comprehensive way. “People Expect you to work long hours” - see above about adjusting to working remotely. We are actively devising ways to ensure people take the time they need to live healthy lives. Lastly, you commented that it’s a horrible place, that peers were abusive, and that Managers and HR failed to address your concerns. We feel really bad about this comment, as we have conducted more than a dozen company-wide engagement and satisfaction surveys over the past 5 years, and this has not come up in those (more than 80% participated in those surveys). That being said, I encourage current employees and candidates to speak with hiring managers about this. We’re actively looking to make TrustArc the best place to work, and we need feedback to do so.

Pros

Enjoyed working with fellow individual contributors. Didn't need to work very hard.

Cons

A workplace that does not care about people. Power is in the hands of a few individuals, none of whom have engineering experience or expertise. If there's any reason the company can treat you poorly, they will take it. Responded to the pandemic by: -pressuring people to work extreme hours ("I work 12 hours a day, why don't you?") -scheduling required meetings during times that working mothers explicitly stated they needed free for parenting duties. -scheduling required meetings as early as 6am

We always appreciate feedback. We're sorry you had a bad experience while with the company. Everyone at TrustArc works hard to operate as a team, and to do so in a way that makes it feel collegial and supportive. We'll continue to focus on that. Regarding working during the pandemic: we have worked with managers to MAKE SURE they check in with their teams, and to ensure that we are focusing on working "smarter, not harder." We're encouraging people to focus on their work-life balance. Our employees have told us that it has been hard to remain dedicated to personal time and shutting our computers off, so we will continue to find ways to improve on creating good work/time boundaries. Thank you again for giving us an opportunity to address this.
