Pros

Figured my 5-star rating would garner more attention. So let's begin! Sales Training seemed to be ok, there is opportunity for growth if someone up the chain of command likes you as a person and doesn't care about your work ethic (more on that later), and hours are fantastic.

Cons

"Drink the Kool-aid" type of culture. If you don't conform to who they want you to be, you'll be flagged as being "difficult" or "free-thinker" which makes you run into more problems down the road because you don't want to be the robot they want you to be. EXTREME favoritism environment. Tumi does not care how hard you work or how great your performance is. They'll take care of someone they like because of the "good ole' boys and girls club". Managers will go out of their way to embarrass you in front of "clients" in order to defuse a situation or just because "I'm old and I know more than you. You're just a kid." Most clients are the worst. You think you've experienced bad customers? HA! You clearly have not worked at Tumi. You would think that someone between the ages of 40-65+ would be more well mannered and respectful right? WRONG. These people are extremely entitled to whatever they want and if you try to do your job they'll pull out the old "I'll just take it up with corporate." card. Like that scares you or something. Not to mention, they feel as if they're the ones running the company! I don't know if it's because they think they're above everyone because they can buy expensive luggage and feel that they can treat you however they please, but they were ridiculous and I'm surprised I didn't meet one outside after work. If they can leave reviews about us, then the workers should leave reviews about them. Tumi does not care about your personal life. Your life and everything about it morphs into Tumi. They don't care if you have enough family time, personal time, or even time for anything you need to do such as school. Even worse, my upper management couldn't find it through their thick skulls that I am in the military reserves. Meaning they would have me close the night RIGHT before I needed to drive home and then 2+ hours to my armory for my monthly drill. My manager then tried to throw it in my face saying "It was your choice to join the military." Yeah, but it was also my choice to work here as well. They then would try to be slick and use my ONLY weekend off for my drill weekend! Extremely depressing and toxic culture. You would be by yourself for hours on end waiting for someone to walk through the door. Boredom does something to the human mind psychologically when it's extended for long periods of time. My management would also be very condescending, two-faced, and arrogant. Even then my senior manager felt the need to gaslight you on everything. This is not a healthy work-environment. Almost like my manager wanted to be like the clients that came through the door and they saw that you need to step on others to get to the top.

Pros

I was truly excited by the opportunity to join the Tumi team. I strongly believed in the Tumi brand and have always maintained a positive and progressive brand image both inside and outside of work, even once making a sale to a stranger on the subway who I swayed away from a competing brand. Outstandingly well trained in product knowledge, I sold over $370,000 as a PART-time sales associate in one year. One of my store managers was pretty flexible with scheduling which was a plus. But that was because she was an understanding individual most of the time.

Cons

Being told directly from the DM, "I've never seen anyone with clients as good as you", I thought my growth was to be expected in the near future. Working another job down in another state for two months, I even would commute 10 hours a week to work at TUMI so I could keep my job and ensure my future with the company. My passion and commitment to the company was made further evident by many extra hours and late-nights at 520 Madison and covering shifts at many branch stores, such as Flatiron, Upper West Side, Upper Madison, 610 Madison, and Rock Center, especially around the holidays. I referred four fantastic employees to numerous Tumi locations. I also engaged in managerial duties, demonstrating proficiency with receiving shipment and sending emails to corporate because my 'new' store manager didn't feel comfortable with his communication skills in English. Please note that none of these were part of my duties or part of my job description. Thinking this engaging attitude would further my career, my work was over looked and was never acknowledged. I stayed late all the time to save and close sales while building trust and relationships with my clients. Unfortunately, there were certain hires in management that diminished to quality of the working Tumi experience. They began cutting down on hours while our CEO(who i've never met) was getting a generous bonus that year. Not only were they cutting down on hours, but they were cutting down on staff. Specifically targeting staff that was getting paid more than $17 dollars an hour while hiring new staff for much less. Needless to say, you get what you pay for... Instead of being fired or laid off, gossip spread like wild fire and our DM began playing dirty. Write ups were flying left and right for reasons that lacked credibility and justification. I got written up for being like a few minutes one morning and another time for not punching out on time for a lunch break because I was with a client closing a 6 thousand dollar sale. Because I was getting paid decently, all my hard work, long hours, extra miles I went for clients, making sure my UPT, DPT, and conversion was high was all overlooked because the new workers that were hired were wiling to work much less. We were asked to not discuss our hourly wage which is illegal but we did. That's why I know. The quality of TUMI has diminished severely over my employment these past 3 years. My numbers spoke for themselves but apparently wasn't enough. I also was hired as part time, worked full time and denied full time benefits on paper. No PTO's in the two year I was there. The company's management are sneaky and have an degrading attitude one would find in High School bullies. There are many other companies out there that will respect you as an individual.

Pros

decent salary, quality product, decent co-workers, above-average product discount

Cons

VERY unprofessional corporate bosses, no possibility for growth or advancement, they hire "talent" from outside but do not train or promote from within, there is a "favorites" club in corporate offices, bosses use workers to advance their own careers, corporate bosses don't support their staff, corporate bosses have elitist attitudes.
