Pros

Decent Pay & Bonuses, large company - so growth is possible if you're willing to travel. Free Health Insurance.

Cons

Human Resources is an absolute joke. Ask any employee how many H.R. professionals have they recycled through during the past 1-3 years. The reason why is pretty scary - as you all know H.R. is supposed to be neutral and no one's friend. Here USRG, the District Managers and Regional Vice Presidents, BULLY - B-U-L-L-Y the Human Resources into making HIGHLY unethical decisions in regards to an employee's future. H.R. has NO backbone, so instead of fighting, they up and quit and go for a company with more integrity. I have witnessed some of the BEST employees get laid off, terminated or pushed away due to Office politics, cattiness & backstabbing. The "company" itself has great intentions, but the individuals in Leadership positions are terrible. They will discard you away like you're nothing. You can be the best performer in the entire company - doesn't mean a thing if someone has a small gripe against or you simply doesn't like you.

Pros

Enjoyed working with my on-site staff and community residents. Leasing commissions were decent. Otherwise, there is not much else positive about this company.

Cons

Absolutely no training for new hires or professional development and mentoring of current employees. No learning and growth opportunities past what you already know at the site level. Upper management in the Northeast region were liars, two-faced, unprofessional, unorganized and made great long-standing employees run for the hills. They lie to the owners, mismanage their assets, cannot take criticism (yet are quick to criticize the property employees), do not take ownership of their shortcomings (such as convincing owners of downtown New Haven property to spend thousands of dollars renovating apartments with mediocre results and insane pricing), do not lead/guide/manage effectively. There is no work/life balance. If your child is sick, be expected to still find someone to watch your child so you can come to work. If you expect to leave work on time, be expected to leave 30-60 minutes late everyday. Be expected to do tons of meaningless reports every week/month and spend most of your working day just trying to keep up with the unmanageable amount of work that is required. I could go on, but it is meaningless as the NE upper management cannot take feedback from their employees and instead gets defensive and angry on anything that is not their "idea".

Pros

None whatsoever. Every aspect of my experience at USRG was awful.

Cons

1. Expect to be micromanaged until your eyes bleed. -Expectations of management are crazy and they don't understand they need to provide to accomplish their goals. - They "mystery shop" you constantly and if you don't adhere to their enormous manuscript entirely its a big problem. 2. Only expect a future in the company if you are an attractive female - I visited/worked at a few of the communities in Connecticut. There isn't a single man working at any office or in corporate at any level except maintenance. That says something. 3. (related to #2) If you are a man expect to be sexually harassed and be the butt of sex related jokes constantly. - As a man this was a daily thing, quickly leading to my resignation. 4. Not everyone, but there are many incredibly unprofessional people working at all levels of the company. 5. Upon being hired expect to get no immediate training and be reamed if you do anything that doesn't strike your managers fancy. -For example: I was pretty publicly embarrassed on my FIRST DAY working for the company they were short staffed and I was asked to answer ALL of the phones. I was given no training and had no idea what I was doing. My boss essentially threatened to fire me because someone from corporate complained that I didn't take her phone call well enough on my first day with 0 training. 6. EXTREMELY cliquey environment 7. They make you sign an arbitration agreement so you can't sue them for all the crap you will take working there. 8. The higher level people are terrible at recognizing and solving problems. Because of this the blame gets passed along to the underlings when occupancy drops.
