Pros

The Academy has the important mission of providing sport education at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, as well as post-secondary non-degree education in the U. S. and around the world. It is a busy environment and a fast pace, but the work is highly satisfying.

Cons

No major cons are noted.

Pros

Excellent health benefits. The general faculty and staff are friendly and supportive.

Cons

Lack of clear communication. Public belittling is a common occurrence. Little to no personal responsibility by leaders - prepare to be thrown under the bus. The culture is built on fear; employees cannot speak up, cannot express opinions, cannot disagree for fear of consequences up to and including loss of employment. While it appeared at one point that the company was trying to move away from treating employees like they were in the 1950's, any progress was completely lost. Do not expect to get far if you are a woman or minority unless you become the "lucky one" of your group specifically chosen to show their devotion to diversity.

Working at the center of a storm

Pros

Opportunities to do interesting work. Salaries and benefits decent.

Cons

The organizational structure is very regimented with two people ultimately making all decisions. Faculty do not have academic freedom in the traditional sense of the term. There is a 40% turnover among on campus employees every year. People often leave or are fired for no apparent reason. The work environment is stifling and a sense of paranoia pervades the organization. This is all due to the fact that President/CEO is the founder of the institution and the second in command is one of the founder's sons.
