Pros

To some degree I liked the extremely flexible work schedules and telework, but that also meant that there were at least three people on my small team who never did anything. As far as I could tell, a couple who were teleworking permanently weren't even working most of the time and didn't produce anything to show otherwise.

Cons

This was an extremely hostile work environment. With the exception of a telemarketing job during college where I only lasted two weeks, this was the worst job I have had in 30 years in the work force. I have several years in the Federal government, so I was forced to stay only until other agencies started hiring again after the sequester.

Pros

I worked in the federal govt civil service for 20 years-half of which was with USDA. It is a good place to work if you are able to manage your own priorities and think independently. Supervision is not always available or particularly helpful. Benefits are great, health insurance is one of the best, but you do pay for it.

Cons

Being part of such a large organization usually means you won't have much influence. Sometimes you just have to 'go with the flow' Civil service is very conservative and there is a lot of 'but we always do it that way' adverse to change!
