How not to run a company.

Pros

The product has potential, and the people I worked with were genuinely amazing and talented. When it works, it could genuinely help its customers.

Cons

Too many to list but I'll try. The CEO is the biggest issue. He is the first to blame everyone around him for the problems - whether they are your responsibility or not - and is never willing to roll up his sleeves and figure out what is actually causing the issue. I've never seen someone who is as distrustful of everyone around him. He thinks the whole company is trying to take advantage of him or is stealing the company. He regularly will make decisions and pivot strategies after a few beverages late at night without consulting the team affected or the leaders in charge of that area of the business. He constantly undermines or talks badly about employees to other employees under the guise of "don't tell them we talked about this". He leads with fear - constantly threatening people's jobs and then wonders why nobody will "bleed for him" or is as invested as him. Basically, this is a textbook toxic culture that will never change despite several leaders coming in to try and change it. Run away.

Pros

Solid Pay and new hardware for work.

Cons

Everything, the CEO is a terrible human and does't value hard work or the sacrifices you make in order to even attempt to reach the unobtainable and unrealistic bar set.

Toxic Culture, Aimless Strategy, RUN AWAY

Pros

Some really fantastic people here. Product is actually pretty decent, although it's quickly losing ground to the competition due to a lack of innovation and focus. The newest "innovation" -- POS on iPhone -- is something all the main competitors in the industry have had for years.

Cons

Where to start? Ultimately, Union has one of the worst company cultures of any places I've worked and it all stems from the CEO. The amount of finger pointing, scapegoating, and complete lack of respect toward employees is on another level. The only way to succeed here is to be a yes man to the CEO and get on board with whatever new doomed-to-fail strategy he rolls out every 2-3 months. The CEO is allergic to data and doesn't actually understand what customers care about nor what the competition is doing. Sales people are treated like a commodity and given wildly unrealistic targets pulled out of thin air. I think the company has gone through over 40 sales people in 1+ year. Additionally, they've churned through 3 senior execs in under a year. They regularly fire people at the end of the month so as not to have to pay for health insurance for the following month. Severance is non-existent. All the talk of being a family and one team one dream is total lip service -- actions speak louder than words. My advice if you're considering joining Union -- Don't. It's not worth it. Save yourself the anguish and join a real company with real vision and a healthy culture.
