Pros
Since the owner changes his mind depending upon who was in his office last, management is able to talk him into occasional incentives for staff based on performance. Bonuses are no longer relevant as the company does not have the same contract, which prevents staff from earning the bonuses claimed in previous responses.
Cons
Owner is not qualified to do the job of anyone employed within the company. Absentee ownership has allowed for substantial employee theft, that, when reported, was swept under the rug and never addressed. Company still owes thousands of dollars in unpaid commissions earned by staff. Very little training. You could be breaking the law and not even know it as a new employee. Collectors are encouraged to circumvent regulations as mandated by clients in order to increase productivity and the bottom line. Accrued and paid time off, as well as commissions, are never accurate in spite of repeated attempts at notifying ownership of the issues. No in-house background checks are conducted prior to hiring employees, in spite of the fact that collectors routinely handle sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, credit cards, checking account information, credit reports, etc. There is no medical, dental, vision, prescription coverage available through this employer. There is no 401(k) nor any sort of retirement program available. There are no employee evaluations, raises or bonuses at this company. Morale is nonexistent here. The collection floor is concrete, and there is no sound suppression or baffling within the building. It is very difficult to work in this environment as everyone is on the phone all day, every day. The collection floor floods when there is heavy rainfall, there is no pest control service so there is an infestation of vermin, the heating and air-conditioning unit routinely go out, the lighting is poor, and you will be sitting at a desk that is probably 2‘ x 3‘ in size. I could go on and on about all of the violations occurring within this organization, but with no contracts in the near future, no staff left (perhaps 5 remain?) and with the company losing money every month, it’s only a matter of time before the business goes under anyhow.
