Worst Job You Can Imagine

Pros

Flight benefits? Nah. There are no pros to working here

Cons

Where do I even begin? This is the worst company to work for. We were lied to from day one. This company says one thing and the truth is the total opposite. They lie about schedules, policies, training, and so much more. Training is absolutely non-existent. They think they teach you a few things in “training” then throw you onto the floor and expect you to know everything. Management acts like a bunch of babies. They try to cover themselves by making excuses every step of the way. No one can ever be an adult and take responsibility. Be EXTREMELY cautious about ever applying to this company. The supervisors, leads, and trainers are clueless. I’ve been in the aviation industry for years, and I have caught SEVERAL times where they have no clue what they’re talking about. Save yourself the trouble and apply for a different company. Oh, and don’t expect a social life here. They are completely unwilling to work with anyone.

Pros

It's not an office job (which was a pro for me, until I had to be outside for 8 hours in pouring, freezing rain and white-out blizzards lifting 50-75lb bags and being yelled at to move faster to get the plane out on time but then being yelled at for cutting corners on safety because some of those procedures are time consuming), and it's cool to get free flights if they would pay you enough to actually be able to afford the rest of the costs of a vacation (I.e. rental car, hotel, food, being able to even afford to miss a day of work) and then try to get somebody to cover your shift, and then hope that there is an open seat on the flights (which you won't know until 15 minutes before the plane leaves the gate.) I made a lot of friends, in the way that you bond with people that are in the same terrible situation as you are, we bonded through commiserating.

Cons

Horrible upper management, horrible training. I sat in a class room for 6 weeks straight, 40 hours a week, watching power points and being told how great the company is and how much support we will get from our general managers and how hands on the upper management is and how much better the company will be in comparison to other airlines....blah blah blah....how important safety is and that safety is always the number one priority (WHICH IT SHOULD BE) but then get into the job and have general managers who are so stressed out because they get no support from upper management, then our lead agents are stressed because management throws a bunch onto them and it just continues all the way down. AND THEN I get injured at work because were rushing to "get planes out on time", and i throw out my back, get taken to the emergency care clinic, get prescriptions, give all of the information to my general manager to send in to get taken care of. And then continue to get bills for months, even after calling and complaining that I'm still being billed even thought it should be covered by workman's comp. and then the bill gets sent to collections after I left the job and I can't get a hold of anyone to get it taken care of. Seriously. I do NOT recommend this job. Schedules are horrible. We work every holiday, and you can't leave until your flights are gone which could be hours (literally one day I worked a 13 hour shift when I was scheduled for 6) depending on bad weather or a million other things that could go wrong. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS JOB TO ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE THE ASPIRATION OF MOVING HIGHER UP IN THE AVIATION INDUSTRY. And even if you do have those aspirations....don't work for this company. Go to Southwest or even Delta. Or even just mainline United.

It's not worth flights

Pros

Free travel, if and when you can get it. If you can get on a plane, you have to make sure you're back. If not, you're fired. (Also, you won't make enough to go anywhere cool without plunging yourself into debt)

Cons

-They will not accommodate your religious services or fasting. It's not in the contract. -United Airlines largely treats UGE like a second-class citizens. They'll frequently remind you that you're not a "real employee" and cut in front of you for flights. -The management (including me) are cast-offs from United Airlines. Couldn't make it there? Head over to UGE! Who suffers? The front-line employee. -If you're in management, this is a great way to kill your career. You don't contribute to the bottom line and perform a service that United Airlines needs but doesn't want to do. Again, you'll be treated poorly. -I've never seen a company that just takes people with little to no formal education and puts them in leadership roles. Another example of gross mismanagement. When we had to look at ways to save money, my boss suggested printing on both sides of the paper. Really? -The contract is used flexibly to fire people. When Covid broke out, my manager would have us fire people to match staffing levels. Don't believe me? Ask some of the employees about it. -THIS IS NOT FLEXIBLE. The employees of UGE are under a contract. A labor contract is based on seniority and does not care about any of your life events. In all fairness, this isn't unique to UGE.
