- Healthcare's really rewarding, especially working directly with patients - Close supportive team culture

Cons

- The job fluctuates between deceptively easygoing and crisis when patients have personal emergencies - Can be a really weathering job- affects mental health

Pros

My time was generally a fair experience highlighted by a few wonderful people that worked at the hospital. I learn a lot about mental health and have nothing but positive regards for most of the people working there. However, the Utah State Hospital is constantly overburdened, in a state of flux, and desperate to attract/keep talented people. This is due to consistent incompetency displayed by the state legislature and government leadership that I witnessed over a decade and a half. Management is hamstrunged. So I guess one positive is that the professional expectations of staff is generally low...

Cons

If you take a job here just realize that you are settling... Settling for less of everything: less pay, benefits, development, options, etc. The State is simply incapable of compensating but will always be desperate and very demanding. Like a desperate friend who will ultimately demand more of you than they are willing to give.

Pros

Great support from administration, constant improvements, regular staff appreciation events, good exposure to medications and treatments, regular opportunities for training and education.

Cons

Like anywhere else, one or two UNDs are less friendly than others and will focus incessantly on the mistakes of those around them. This, however, is the exception not the rule.
