Pros

Great location, patient population, and community. Field staff are supportive and friendly. Competitive benefits. Small radius for traveling, great support and auxiliary staff.

Cons

Lack of standardized training upon hire to support decision making and process in the field. Management does not listen to suggestion or support when in distress. Stress doesn’t equal pay

Non-profit with a big heart!

Pros

Location is the best as Santa Barbara is super beautiful and the downtown office is only minutes away from the beach! Employees are friendly and super helpful. There is a sense of family and teamwork throughout the agency. My supervisor trusts me to do my job but is available to answer questions when needed. All the employees truly believe in the mission of this non-profit and the agency is highly respected in the community.

Cons

This is a non-profit organization and agency celebrations tend to be more low key compared to the extravagant affairs that for profit organizations have.

A nice place to work for a few years

Pros

VNHC is a well-established and financially stable non-profit with a reputation for providing top-notch home health, hospice, and other services in Santa Barbara. I've worked at VNHC for a few years and anytime I mention where I work to strangers I get a positive response. The best part of working here is the people. It is a surprisingly compassionate workplace, where staff genuinely care for each other and their patients. Compensation feels fair and the benefits package is robust. On the whole, VNHC is a good employer that listens to its employees and focuses on maintaining the quality of its services. It's a nice place to work for a few years.

Cons

I would not classify VNHC as a "fun" place to work. The company's values reflect a traditional, formal, and rigid company culture. Though I personally have a good relationship with my supervisor, there is inconsistency in the quality of leadership at the organization which can make work expectations feel unfairly enforced. VNHC does not offer structured opportunities for career growth, which means staff looking to build their careers have to leave the company to advance. Work/life balance can also be a challenge since the organization is perpetually understaffed.
