Pros

Good benefits, Flexible time off, gifts for most holidays (always with the option of cash if you don't want the gift). My recruitment was honestly fantastic as the acquisition personnel were always borderline immediate to respond - I thought I had really found a great company to be a part of, but I guess they only train in smoke and mirrors.

Cons

Everything else. I left my old agency to join Vaniam to get actual training and the prospect of career advancement. However, there is no training, just expectations of mind-reading every director's preferences. Even if SOPs exist, they varied. Directors and senior personnel should want their employees to learn and flourish, but over my (short) time there it was always just "you're doing this wrong" in a condescending fashion with no teaching or mentoring. Joke's on them since they apparently laid me off without even notifying my Director, so that tells you even more about how this company operates. Moreover, and the best part, is that it's obvious management hasn't learned anything from the 2 mass layoff periods prior. Here are some of the most laughable responses from Vaniam to other reviews regarding the layoffs: "We have since implemented important safeguards to minimize the chance that we would be in a similar situation in the future..." "We have taken great strides to enhance our resource forecasting over the past several months, and we are confident these new processes will improve our ability to be correctly staffed in the future, and to grow at a moderate pace that our infrastructure can handle" Sounds like the Senior leadership should let themselves go instead of the most recent hires.

Pros

This company employs some great people, and as a fully remote job, you are able to work with folks across the US, who you might not otherwise have met or had a chance to work with. Salaries are also competitive for the market, with some huge caveats (see Cons below).

Cons

Leadership is very opaque, and business decisions appear to be made on a whim (without data or obvious rationale to back them up). Since I was hired, there have been two major layoffs in which managers and coworkers were blindsided and unable to prepare their teams, so a lot of work was never properly transitioned. In both cases, the layoffs were handled poorly. Very little if any communication was given to managers about the layoffs or how to handle them, and people were let go en masse via blinded zoom call with a very impersonal, cold, and scripted message. The company claims to be people-first and provides lots of expensive gifts (birthday cakes, swag, gift cards, etc) even while they are laying people off, which is both disingenuous and disrespectful to the people who are let go. After the first layoff, remaining employees were told that the decision was difficult and that it would not happen again, but 3 months later, it did. They also let go of a high-level department head but told the company that the individual resigned (which was a blatant lie). If you are considering this company, be very cautious and don’t expect extensive training, comprehensive processes, or direction. And don’t expect to be employed for very long. I left a good company going through some rocky times for Vaniam because I was sold on a great working environment with strong, people-centered values, which has proven to be a complete sham. It’s honestly shocking to me how blatant their lack of concern and empathy is for their employees. If you are looking for a short-lived transition job with a high salary, give it a shot if you’ve got nothing better to do. But if you want a serious career and expect to be treated like a competent human being with useful skills, definitely a hard pass.

Pros

Working in the Oncology sector is rewarding in the fact that I can contribute to getting therapies to patients.

Cons

Working at Vaniam Group leads to much disappointment. Despite the lip-service given to being an "Evergreen Company", which espouses to put "people first," they keep around and maintain clients that treat the employees in a horrible manner. Holding onto these clients brings about significant turnover for those that have to work with these clients. It is clear that "people first" equals clients and NOT employees. Even though this is a virtual company, I am continually surprised by the number of technology-averse coworkers, who are wholly resistant to change and even wear it as a badge of honor that they are unable to spend 5 seconds to Google a question about Microsoft Office. Why the management allows this sort of behavior is beyond me, and some of the members of the management team are the worst offenders. For a medical communications company, basic computer and word processing literacy should be required. One particular thing to look about for is the gaslighting by the managers. I have never seen such textbook examples of this behavior anywhere else in my career. Unfortunately, for the company and the employees, this demeaning practice rises all the way up to the CEO.
