Pros

Pay in the first few years is above average; kids are okay as far as behavior goes, nice faculty for the most part.

Cons

Horrible politics with administration, really, really unintelligent people in leadership positions, and the intelligent ones are morally challenged. Constant changes in curriculum and the daily structure without vetting the practices first. Crazy turn-over rate. I was a veteran after just a few years.

Pros

A k-12 systems allows for services to wrap around a student unfortunately, this is not taken advantage of

Cons

Nepotism is hiring, the CEO and directors do not have basic knowledge in education law so leadership operates from a place of ego, feelings bias etc. lack of investment in PD for staff, the mentality is “build it your own unless we tell you otherwise.” It’s really sad that adults power trip gets in the way of providing a quality education to kids.

Terrible place to work at

Pros

only pro was that I made a few good friends while working there

Cons

It's non union school so teachers don't have a real way to protect themselves against the admin team which has their favorites/teachers. 12 month temporary contracts so the admin can easily terminate your job if they don't subjectively like you. They will find a nice professional way of writing the excuses on paper but the real reason is that they don't like you on a personal level. I saw terrible teachers that were liked by admin that secured their jobs every year. Sometimes great teachers were unliked personally by admin and so their job contracts were not renewed and thus were "let go of". Only way to really challenge it is if you got. money for lawyers to take it to court (most of us don't). The school has a very high teacher turnover rate every year for the last 10+ years. I don't care how people spin it, that's never a good sign. The base pay is non-competitive compared to all the neighboring LAUSD schools which pay teachers at least $15K-$20K higher and have union protection (better health benefits too). The only way teachers here make some extra money to increase their low pay is by getting bonus checks by getting a good evaluation by admin. Again if the admin likes you then you will get your bonus. If they don't like you, your evaluation will be thrashed and you will not get a bonus check. Its a subjective evaluation because the admin grading you is human with personal human emotions so you can get screwed from receiving your bonus paycheck. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a teaching job.
