Pros

Friendly vibes Colleagues are willing to support one another in crunch time or clients issue resolution. A kind and well intentioned CEO.

Cons

It's been a roller coaster ride ever since the company announced a 'merger' with another small digital agency, both of which needed each other to survive. Their CTO was also suddenly terminated last month The tech solutions that were produced are mediocre and does not have well thought out vision & planning baked into it. I still wondered how long they can ride off the "Hertz partnership" any longer, and the public sector clients that the newer agency brought with them are not visionary, at snails pace and a slog to produce fruitful work with. A few years ago, product management as a function was suddenly dismantled and then brought back on again over a year ago, with a short slide deck on what they are envisioning from that point on. Almost none of the earlier PMs have remained. Majority of employees are hired within the past year, leading to this disjointed frankenstein culture of awkward Monday morning breakout sessions thrown in with average benefits of few hundred dollars in learning budgets and several Fridays off for summer long weekends. It is a nice gesture for teams that are constantly on the verge of a burnout due to lack of support & mentoring. A quick LinkedIn search will show mass exodus of Versett & Domain7 employees over the past 4 month, most without a next job lined up. Several members in the leadership team was highlighted already in other reviews, the level of gaslighting in project failures, badmouth/gossiping many others for their personality traits, and scapegoating fellow team members to be fired still happens in the background. They've desperately hired many developers who had bad work ethics (not showing up to meetings) and not performing at the level that at any other company, would be a justifiable reason to be let go. A few influential members call the shots, despite not being at a people leadership level and when one says a culture is toxic - all the above are probably what this has come down to.

Thanks so much for taking the time to complete a review. While I’m not free to speak to individual roles, it’s important to me to underscore we have an incredible team of professionals making valuable contributions day in and day out. I believe deeply in the team we have! It’s always disappointing on the rare occasions when things don’t work out with particular individuals, and yet it’s still important to me to celebrate all the great contributions that those individuals made during their time with us! So thank you to you for the energy you invested during your time with us, and truly, I wish you well in whatever you’ve gone on to next.

Worst experience as an employee

Pros

I appreciated the flexibility and autonomy in my work. I met some talented colleagues, who like me were exploited for our skills and experiences.

Cons

With a lot of changes in 2022, I experienced the worst burnout I had ever experienced during my time at one of the recently acquired companies, which led to a stress leave and my decision to quit to protect my health and well-being. The company states that they value people-first, but really it rewards certain people and discriminates against others, especially BIPOC employees by underpaying and overworking them. During my time, I experienced gaslighting and witnessed bullying of other colleagues, which was never resolved during my time there. When some colleagues quit earlier in the year, instead of reviewing the recently won contracts and hiring more staff, the same workload was applied to fewer employees, which resulted in multiple burnouts and an overwhelming amount of stress applied to across multiple teams. There seems to be an inability to say no to clients or contracts until it is too late, and profit is prioritized over employee health. After my departure, I do not believe any positive changes have been made to address these critical systemic issues.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. I’m sorry your experience of Versett didn’t live up to the expectations you had of us, or indeed the high bar we have set for ourselves. Our commitment to building a diverse team is sincere —though imperfect — and we’re continually learning and pushing ourselves to do better. We have initiated a new DEI report, the results of which will be made public, just as we did in 2019, 2020 and 2021. In addition, all team engagement data can be reviewed against demographics to better understand the specific experiences of diverse groups of people.

Pros

I have the opportunity to work with a group of bright and hard-working peers, in a fully remote-friendly environment

Cons

After a year of being the company, I started sensing a unspoken and unhealthy work culture that is regularly presented as we’re all in this together, which is intended to be inclusive and I often observed that colleagues of a certain group that has gone to University together, or in the same church tend to speak in a very eloquent manner; There is not a whole lot of constructive disagreement. Sadly I have heard colleagues who made the ranks to a leadership level gossiping about other colleagues and at times ridiculing them in the very rare days I was in the office and could overheard them in the adjacent meeting room. There was a definitive bias for favouritism with said colleagues, who has the most philosophical way of speaking and a culture of finger-pointing when things don’t go well towards the ones who are least likely to fit in.
