      Great people, terrible CEO

      Pros

      Amazing co-workers who are passionate about rock climbing. Atmosphere at every gym was different and exciting from one another. The pro-deals available to staff make it easier to obtain more gear at a lower value.

      Cons

      CEO has compared general staff to McDonald's workers at the company end-of-year party and reminding them they are completely replaceable. Amount of pay (minimum wage) is not acceptable for the amount of work the staff has to do. The way they managed their employees at all their locations during COVID was embarassing and showed they only cared about profit over their own staff. It really feels like you are not valued at all as a worker in this company.

      Pros

      VE has a passionate set of business office staff. Select members of the business office have their heads on straight and are pushing for positive and modern changes. Given the right set of leaders, VE has potential to absolutely thrive in it's industry.

      Cons

      They struggle with being lead by a president (and senior staff) that operate on the same mentality that was had in the 90s when they opened. Often too many cooks in kitchen and not enough trust is endowed to their employees in their positions.

      the work is enjoyable the managers and coworkers are cool

      Cons

      absolutely trash upper management/company owners seem to have no idea how to run a business very low wage that does not reflect the specialized skills/information you need to be good at this job not a lot of poc representation no real upward mobility beyond becoming a shift manager no annual raises few benefits, health insurance policy is a joke impossible to make the job livable unless you enjoy living paycheck to paycheck unwilling to spend money on their programs/thing that would directly benefit staff/the climbers that come to the gym a complete lack of trust between upper and lower management
