Pros

I honestly can't think of a single pro to list.

Cons

I was recently laid off from Verus Title, and while I had many positive experiences in my early time there, the way things ended was deeply disappointing and revealing of the company’s current culture and leadership direction. Throughout my tenure, I experienced constant turnover in leadership. This led to shifting goals, inconsistent communication, and a lack of strategic direction. The eventual company reorganization only made things more chaotic, not better. Despite having no non-compete clause during my employment, I was offered a separation package that required signing a 12-month non-compete — in exchange for just 3 weeks of pay. This felt coercive and exploitative, especially for someone trying to move forward in their career. I accepted stock as part of my compensation, under the impression that I would be fully vested after the defined period. Only later did I discover that the vesting period restarted with each new grant, meaning you're essentially never fully vested unless you remain indefinitely. This felt deceptive and ultimately cost me part of my earned compensation. New leadership made promises of one-on-one meetings to “get to know” employees, but these were later revealed to be information-gathering sessions—used to make decisions about who to keep and who to cut. This created an environment of mistrust and anxiety. My overall experience was marred by broken trust, poor communication, and questionable ethics from upper management. I would caution any prospective employee to ask hard questions during the interview process and carefully review any compensation packages or agreements. What’s presented on the surface does not always reflect the internal reality.

Pros

Management at the state and regional level cares about employees and their growth and will bend over backward for a good employee.

Cons

The growth sometimes makes chain of command an issue.
