Pros
- Product itself is good - You get decent/good pay - Decent work/life balance with some roles but others have worse balance - Good people in most roles. - You get to work on, with, or around "cool" tech - Some roles are not exposed to as much of the cons as others but the cons apply to around 90-95% of the workforce.
Cons
(Disclaimer, most startups have problems with lots of things to fix. This review is mostly about leaderships inability and willingness to learn, set a positive tone, and be better. 99% of problems can be fixed by good leadership.) - Really bad leadership with lack of accountability. (It's very common for the CEO to yell, curse, and/or demean employees, he has this reputation within the company. Most, outside of 1, other C-level or high-level executives/managers are spiteful and have bad leadership qualities.) - No direction as a company (as an example, they held a company wide meeting and flew everyone to Montreal to announce the rebranding and direction of the company but then had no plan to deliver on those things. As of the time of this writing, they still haven't rebranded. That was a year ago.) - Inexperienced management. (Several managers got their role with little to no actual experience in leadership, which isn't bad in itself because you can learn, but these ones didn't even know the basic concepts of managing/leading a team, and more importantly, the tools and processes that go along with their positions.) - Poor communication (This is an understatement. It's the classic left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing but to a much larger degree) - Product is only as good as the supply chain, which is really bad - They do not promote from within. (Some outside hires resulted in good people. Most in management/leadership are inexperienced and void of leadership qualities, which begs the question why they didn't promote from within) - Most in upper management have agendas. (Basic lack of willingness to concede to another's viewpoint unless forced to) - Not a positive culture, mostly negative. - Very bureaucratic throughout the company and so much so that it affects being effective for most roles. (Managers pushing their agendas and won't listen, etc) - It's a culture of "what have you done for me lately?" - Some roles have really bad work/life balance. It's very common for management to expect all day work. - A sense of untrustworthiness permeates the entire company, emanating from the CEO. - Hedging from one pocket to the next and they're losing money. Doubtful they stay in business longer than 3 years from this writing. Only hope is a buyout.
