Pros

Some really great, hardworking and committed people. If you love serving , you will have plenty of opportunities. Ability to perform meaningful work and truly impact individuals and the community is a big plus.

Cons

There is a caste system. Many times, pastors' opinions and thoughts are given way too much weight when compared to seasoned professionals. More often than not, professional opinion and experience is overruled by pastors with no experience in a specialty. This even happens with "junior" pastors. It's too bad because this has limited the growth and health of the organization and its ability to attract and maintain talent. Your work life will spill over into your personal life quite a bit. Expect to "work" weekends even if it is not part of your job. This is somewhat inevitable when working at a church.

Pros

- Kind coworkers - Good health benefits - Staff retreats

Cons

- Little to no room for growth (no mentoring/professional development on any level) - Poor leadership skills from management (poor conflict-resolution, lack of feedback, etc.), often leading to team dysfunction - Lack of understanding of job duties / overlapping job roles / constant lack of clarity within department - Severely underpaid and overworked with no overtime pay, even compared to similar job roles at other large churches - Poor communication from top to bottom / bottom to top - Lack of trust from management and between departments - Increased job responsibilities with the same pay
