Great colleagues but management is in it for themselves

Pros

Personally rewarding to provide the community important information and engage with them. We encounter so many interesting people and life stories in the news biz. It's also gratifying to see hard work rewarded by good ratings and community appreciation.

Cons

Management does not appreciate the OT hours put in day after day, week after week, nor are many (non-union) employees paid for it or given comp time. It's just expected of you in the highly competitive industry. (Yet top management take a lot of time off for themselves!) Because of that, the job can take a personal toll on you. Morale is further reduced because management is not very communicative, just issues orders; doesn't ask for input from employees who have been loyal and successful and should be valued for their loyalty and experience.

Pros

smart, talented, kind people .

Cons

Culture has taken a hit in recent years. Most folks aren't as happy as they used to be stemming from decisions made by managers and a recent sale to Nexstar

Pros

There are some nice co-workers who care about you.

Cons

Nexstar bought the station. I can’t say there have been great developments since then. Layoffs took place in Dec. 2019. On a personal level, I would describe this newsroom as a toxic workplace. I don’t want to get into too many details about managers, but I find some to be out of tune and difficult. Maybe even incompetent or unaware of what they’re doing and the impact it has. I find this place to be more interested in personifying problems rather than actually solving them. Surely, this can’t be the exemplary model for coronavirus workplace changes.
