Pros

Large, well established company. Ability to make good commissions. Company has a good retirement plan (401K) with a great match (6%). Bank officers receive 21 days of vacation time (can never take any of it though). Company has many locations and until recently, plenty of opportunities for advancement.

Cons

Company reputation is highly unstable right now, and public perception is not good. Also, commissions are constantly being cut, or "refocused". 401K funds are not the best to choose from, and company does not match for the first year. Very difficult to take days off with this company. Going through a hiring contraction, which hurts advancement opportunities. BIG TIME MICRO-MANAGERS!!!!!

Pros

The best reason to work for Wachovia is the benefit structure. Wachovia provides a myriad of health plans that can be purchased by associates. In addition to the health benefits, the corporation is very generous with time off benefits. Most associates start with 3 weeks paid time off in their first year. There is also a provision for 2 weeks of paid time to take care of a family member who is ill in addition to your 3 weeks paid time off. For retirement benefits, Wachovia has ended their pension plan. The 401(k) has a very generous employer match of 6 percent after your first year of employment. The generous portion is that there is instant vesting in the employer match. You keep everything they contribute once you qualify for the match.

Cons

The biggest downside to Wachovia is the constant changing of focus in the corporation. Middle management uses a "flavor of the month" approach as opposed to having a consistent approach to guiding subordinates to success in the firm. As a result, there is not much interest in the advancement of employees. There are limited positions in areas away from the corporate office that an employee can aspire to.
