Pros

Great teams, helpful, and friendly environment as long as you're not in sales or having to deal with head of product.

Cons

Head of product is overbearing on everyone and likes to dictate everything instead of delegating to managers. Constantly changes her mind mid-way through development sprints and causes more issues, then complains about time taken to complete dev tasks while demanding even more changes. End outcome is features no one understands why we need and no customers use. The company also made the whole UK Dev/QA/Other teams redundant in September because the business failed to keep a large client. Then posted the same jobs a month later hiring staff from Columbia for half the price. So loyalty doesn't pay as usual.

Pros

During my stint there the software development had some quite remarkable talent. It's an extremely good place to learn firsthand about the typical pitfalls in software development processes. And there's free breakfast.

Cons

The working environment was as toxic as it can get. Any kind of progress or improvement was severely hampered by two main factors: obvious favouritism, and a complete lack of disregard towards best practices in software development. The whole process revolved around sales, which, coupled to an extreme case of micromanagement, left the team with unbearable levels of technical debt. There was not a single engineer in the management team, meaning an absolute disregard for our craft and a blatant ignorance of basic project management and software architecture skills; nevertheless, that didn't prevent them from driving the process as they wished, typically (yet obviously) producing a substandard result. Any attempt at improving working conditions would be met with belittling comments.

Pros

Blind optimism in the face of adversity. Learn how not to do things.

Cons

Feels like you are working on somebodies pet project. The code base tells its own story of failed initiatives, short term enthusiasm for the latest shiny technology and developer churn. Place high demands on developers who are prone to burnout or leave.
