Don't be Mislead by prompted reviews

Pros

This is a website for honest reviews – not those prompted by the boss to try to counteract the actual reviews. The date stamps give it away. These reviews help those looking to make a decision about their livelihood, family, and overall quality of life. Shame on those who use this as marketing tool and water down authentic, helpful feedback. The question to ask yourself is why is the turnover so high? There is a reason, and it's not because employees couldn't "cut it". Each one that I've worked at has been at the top of their game, but decided it just wasn't worth it. It's no coincidence that out of the 9-10 people on the website currently, three don't really work there but look good for the website's appearance & four more have been there less than a month. Only 2 people that do the technical and creative work have been there longer than a year. This sincerely isn't to bash the company for fun. But, that's data folks, and it should speak for itself. There are reasons. Optimism is a great trait. Maybe these authentic reviews will get through to management. But currently, as someone stated below, ask a previous employee (someone with no conflicts of interest or incentive to "sell" you on the position to get another body in the door). The YCP culture sounds great and reads great on paper, that's why I and many other seasoned professionals worked there, but dig deeper before risking your livelihood. The work is there, the opportunity is there. Will it be worth it though?

Cons

- Lots of bait & switching and word manipulation, especially to get you on board. (for example: prompted, pressured reviews.) -Unhealthy environment (Notice in the reviews, one constant is the coworkers. This is because most of them are going through the same dynamics and you do grow closer.)

We're sorry you thought differently about this. You might not realize this but several employees who had left reviews already wanted to encourage their peers to tell about their great, positive experiences they had. This idea wasn't initiated by anyone on the management team (it wasn't even known until later actually) - it was all employee led so if they felt pressured from a teammate we would imagine that probably wasn't the intent. We're sorry if you felt that way. Please reach out if we can clarify anything here for you!

Don’t believe the sales pitch

Pros

Coworkers are the glue of what keeps the place somewhat bearable. Christmas break.

Cons

The initial interview was very promising, but all those promises quickly disappeared after being hired. You are promised multiple salary increases through out the year, but that is rarely the case for anyone working there. The Personal Development Plan is a sales tactic to get you in the door. You are offered a lower than market salary and promised being able to make more with the PDP. When you are trying to advance yourself as an employee, you are told that you are not good enough for that yet. During the interview process, you are told you can work remote when needed. There is zero trust with employees so only those who have been there for many years get the option. With every employee that has left, it is always the their fault and that they were not a good fit according to leadership. In reality, most people leave because of the owner. You are expected to be at your desk at all times, even if you need to speak to someone about work related things (you are expected to communicate through Slack). If you are required to learn a new technology, you are required to learn outside of work (you are not paid for it). There is a ton of micromanagement from the top instead of trusting the employees to do what you are hired to do.

We are sorry to hear that your experience with us wasn't up to expectations. However, we're not sure we understand the details you shared in your review - could you connect with us so we can learn more? Our back end software developers received two cash bonuses and two separate PDP raises for personal development during the last 90-120 days (over $2,500 for each one of the 2 raises) for learning new programming languages on their own time. We are always quick to reward that type of initiative and do more than we promised (one received $1,000/yr. more than we had initially promised in their offer for personal development). We try to go above and beyond to show that we appreciate every teammate's efforts! We also work hard to go over and above to show that we care about the families of our staff. Another developer on our team received an immediate raise of $3,600/yr. after sharing a specific family medical situation with us. Every team member is offered the option to work from home as needed (we do ask they be available via Slack in case a client has an emergency). In the last two weeks 20% of our team worked from home for different reasons. We don't offer full-time remote positions at this time but on average we probably have someone work from home once a week or so as life happens. :-) If you have any questions we would be happy to take you to lunch so we can understand your concerns and make right anything you felt wronged you. Please reach out. Thanks!
