DO NOT WORK FOR ZENMARKET

Pros

Located in central Osaka great to get to and lots of restaurants around.

Cons

The worst company I have ever worked for. The CEOs do not care about your health, your family or anything about you, the only thing they care about is making as much money as possible. There has been instances of bullying and sexual harassment and when brought up to the CEOs they just put it down to "communication issues." There were instances of a co-worker shouting at another, but this issue was not seen as bullying and power harassment instead it just became another "communication issue." To help this issue my colleague was forced to talk to the harasser everyday and continued to be belittled. The management do not care about mental health and do not believe it is a thing. Although they say that it is a global company they strive hard to be like a Japanese company despite breaking the Japanese law countless of times. They need to remember that they aren't a start-up anymore. If the CEOs don't like you they will go against the Japanese laws and force you to quit by offering you some money. They won't give you a chance to say goodbye to anyone, they will delete you instantly off everything. I would recommend to stay far away from this company and their old thinking.

Lack of trust, sketchy company

Pros

At ZenMarket, in the marketing team, you will have a good international team environment and they provide a working visa for foreigners.

Cons

Sadly, there are major points I should mention if you plan to join ZenMarket. I will start with the lack of trust from the CEOs, they will micro-manage all the team leaders and your opinions don't matter. During the pandemic, we were sent to their warehouses to build shelves, packing parcels and doing different manual work which we were not qualified for. As a marketer, I felt very offended hearing from them that the marketers were the less busy in the company so only our department should go and help the warehouse workers. Their company policies kept changing during the pandemic and they made many last minute decisions about teleworking. We worked remotely on and off, they even obliged us to install a software in our computers to track our activities and take screenshots of your screen every 3 minutes. Obviously our health wasn't their priority. If you join ZenMarket, please don't become pregnant before you turn seishain (it's three years before you have access to that in Zenmarket), otherwise they won't renew your contract if you are on a maternity leave. This is just one of the example among many others that made people leaving the company in a short-period of time. Since the company has been founded, they managed to only have 1 person located overseas to take care of the entire website and information technology. As an e-commerce website, how can you think of growing very fast, setting high objectives with just one person dealing with the front-end and the back-end? We had many projects that never saw the light, and probably never will.

Coworkers have been asked to leave

Pros

Overtime is paid in full.

Cons

It is not unusual to turn up to work one day and realize somebody is suddenly resigning. If the CEOs don’t like you or your opinions on how to better the company, you can be randomly called to have your loyalty questioned and be asked/pressured/encouraged (however you want to call it) to quit. As part of “loyalty” me and other employees have once been asked to leave reviews on Google and other recruiting sites to improve the score of the company before (not very moral). There’s a skewed view on what it means to be loyal in such a toxic ceo-centric culture - needs to wake up and realize it’s not a startup anymore.
