Pros

Offers really nice pay and will allow remote work. Really nice coworkers to interact with and get to know on a personal level.

Cons

If you work for ZCS itself remotely you will have it really nice. If you work on site at the CO facility then prepare for being treated as a second class citizen. After the Global Thermostat merger, many enticing benefits were offered to keep talent but then proceeded to slowly let people go. It’s a fundamental difference between remote workers who are competent at design but have not built a full scale system before not listening to employees who have and failing to address design flaws that have already been tested and failing to commit to a design to build to actually see if the design will work relying too heavily on simulations. Severe mistrust of the CO locations people/data with a head CTO that wants hands on micromanagement in every decision. Pay difference between remote workers and CO location is pretty dramatic from the people I’ve talked with. Take what I say with a grain of salt as a former employee, but understand that whatever ZCS says from a management pov is likely bat guano. If you get an interview and at the CO location, ask about the merger and ask where the employees are now after 6 months of that happening.

Pros

The mission sounds good on paper. Clean energy is important work, and that's what gets people in the door. Unfortunately, the company has figured out how to take something people genuinely care about and make them regret ever showing up.

Cons

Let's start with the CEO. This is someone who is openly obsessed with the company's Glassdoor rating — to the point of pressuring employees to post positive reviews and becoming visibly agitated when negative ones appear. Read that again. The response to a bad review is not to fix what caused it. It's to bury it. That tells you everything you need to know about leadership's relationship with accountability. The micromanagement is relentless. There is no trust extended to the technical team, no autonomy, and no sense that the people doing the actual work are valued in any meaningful way. Hard work goes unacknowledged. Contributions disappear into a void. People are grinding — genuinely grinding — with no goals, no direction, and no feedback that amounts to anything actionable. Transparency is not just absent here, it's actively weaponized. Information is withheld deliberately, and that withholding is used to keep employees off balance and dependent. There is no clarity on strategy, priorities, or where the company is actually headed. You will work hard and have no idea if it matters or why. The broken promises are real and documented. Bonuses that were committed to were never paid. That's not a budget issue, that's a character issue. There is zero genuine investment in people. No structured growth, no recognition, no culture of any kind that would make a talented engineer want to stay. The technical team works hard in a vacuum while leadership operates with a level of secrecy that breeds anxiety, distrust, and eventually exodus. The turnover is not a coincidence. When you treat people as replaceable parts while dangling a mission they believe in, you burn through exactly the talent you can least afford to lose.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We take feedback like this seriously, especially when it comes from current team members, and we recognize the importance of addressing concerns openly and constructively. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your experience has not reflected the environment we strive to create. Our mission in clean energy is something we care deeply about, but we also know that a meaningful mission must be supported by a workplace where employees feel respected, supported, and empowered. You raised several important concerns — including leadership approach, communication, transparency, recognition, and follow-through on commitments. These are critical elements of a healthy organization, and we acknowledge that when they fall short, it has a real impact on our team. We want to be clear on a few points: • Employee feedback and reviews: We do not support or condone pressuring employees to post reviews. Feedback—positive or negative—should always be voluntary and authentic. If any employee has felt otherwise, that is something we take very seriously and are actively addressing. • Communication and transparency: We recognize the need for clearer direction, consistent communication, and better visibility into company goals and priorities. Improving this is an active focus, including more structured goal-setting and regular updates from leadership. • Management and autonomy: We are continuing to invest in leadership development to ensure managers are empowering their teams rather than creating unnecessary friction. Building trust and giving teams the autonomy to do their best work is a priority. • Recognition, growth, and commitments: We agree that employees should see a clear connection between their contributions and company progress, and that commitments—especially around compensation—must be handled with transparency and integrity. Where we have fallen short, we are working to improve both communication and consistency. We also recognize that turnover and employee sentiment are important indicators, and we are actively working to better understand and address underlying causes. We appreciate you sharing this perspective. While we may not get everything right, we are committed to learning, improving, and building a company where talented people can do meaningful work and feel valued while doing it. If you are open to continuing the conversation, we encourage you to reach out directly to HR or leadership so we can better understand your experience and work toward meaningful improvements.

Pros

My experience with the company has been overwhelmingly positive from the very beginning. The initial interview process was smooth, well-organized, and transparent. Communication was clear and open, with straightforward explanations of job expectations, responsibilities, and scheduling. Every question I had was addressed thoroughly and respectfully. The onboarding process was equally efficient and stress-free. Expectations were clearly outlined in advance, and multiple check-ins ensured I had everything I needed to get started successfully. Resources, training, and support were provided proactively, which made for a seamless transition into the role. Management has consistently demonstrated a supportive and hands-off leadership style—providing clear direction without micromanaging. Regular check-ins help ensure progress is on track, and they make sure team members have the tools and materials needed to do their jobs well. Safety is clearly prioritized at every level, from leadership to long-standing team members. The culture here truly stands out. It’s inclusive, collaborative, and grounded in teamwork. Different teams openly rely on each other’s expertise, and ideas are shared and discussed with genuine respect. It’s a positive environment where team members support one another and work together toward common goals. Overall, this has been an excellent place to work, with strong communication, supportive leadership, and a culture that values safety, teamwork, and collaboration.

Cons

My experience with the company has been overwhelmingly positive, and I genuinely haven’t encountered anything negative during my time here.
