Pros

- Most of the engineers I had the opportunity to work with are very motivated and have a sense of belonging to the company - CEO is open and communicates good and bad news to employees during most of the weekly huddles - Several socials set up for company members with an individual quarterly budget to spend with your squad.

Cons

- They don't have a well defined career path for engineers and managers. There is something in place, but after a long time in development it is still not ready. - Some teams work hard on quarter objectives just to find out that what they were developing will not be used in the end. - Some people attitude are very scary. I had some 1:1 with an engineer who started shouting very rude sentences when constructive feedback was provided. There were an intent from someone in the people team to sort this out, but nothing was solved, in fact, it went worst since more members of the team got affected by this person behaviour. - Lack of support on many areas for Engineering Managers. At this point I am not sure if they just hired me to check if they really needed one. - Poor feedback from managers. When I was expecting concrete areas to be discussed, I just received a copy/paste feedback from other team members, so I found difficult what I need to focus on from my manager's perspective. - Promotions and compensations are offered in a very strange way. I had one person in my team having 2 salary rises in a year (20% and 44%), while I had another who never was offered anything. Both of these individuals had a very similar engineering skills.

Hi, Thanks for your feedback. We want everyone who joins us at eduMe to have a positive experience, even if their time with us is short. We're sorry to hear that did not happen in your case. The engineering team at eduMe are deeply engaged in our mission and take a lot of pride in the great work they do so we're pleased to hear that you experienced that first hand. We're also glad that you felt positive about the level of transparency from our CEO. Work that has impact and acting with transparency are part of our core values. As a growing startup, we recognise there are opportunities for us to improve and we believe we’re actively making progress all the time. In fact, our ambitious growth plans are what led us to introduce the Engineering Manager role as we felt having the right people in that role would enable us to achieve our long-term goals and, more importantly, have a significantly positive impact on the people and processes within our engineering team. We still believe that to be the case and we’ll continue to hire great people for that role. Some of the challenges that come with working at an early stage startup can differ from other types of environments. While there are a lot of opportunities for everyone to make an impact here, sometimes things can change quickly, involve a high level of ambiguity to work through, or require added patience while we figure things out together—those challenges might not be for everyone and that’s OK. After a lot of work and iteration, we’re very close to introducing progression frameworks for every department in the company. As you’ll have been aware, we’ve been working on these for a while as we wanted to give them the time and attention they deserve. We’ve kept people in the loop along the way and managers were given opportunities to input and provide feedback (as you did on several occasions, thanks!). We make every effort to ensure people are promoted and rewarded fairly and equitably, and continuously review this process. We take action to adjust salaries to ensure they’re consistently fair compared to changing market rates, and also that they accurately represent an individual’s performance - even if this means significant pay increases over a short period of time. Finally, as you’ve mentioned, 'we respect each other' is one of our core values. Any incidents contrary to that value are taken seriously and never ignored. Our People team and senior management team are quick to offer support and take appropriate action where necessary. If anyone at eduMe feels like they have been disrespected, we encourage them to speak to their manager, someone from our People team, or someone else whom they trust and feel comfortable speaking. Thank you again for your feedback—it will help us improve. We wish you all the best in your future career.

Pros

40% in office environment with some travel, great team culture and fun team outings.

Cons

Not as much upfront training as I would have liked, but the pros absolutely outweigh the cons.
