Zero Transparency, Extreme Lack of Professionalism, Hypocritical Company
Pros
The only Pro is the ability to help, on a very basic level, people lose weight and develop a workout routine.
Cons
The lack of transparency from the initial interview began to feel as if I had been lied to about the actual job responsibilities as more and more was expected from me that was not discussed. So here is the truth: * There is ZERO room for growth at the corporate locations where nepotism is prevalent *While you're told that you will be an instructor and coach to members you are also expected to clean the entire studio daily. * You have to act as a secretary: make calls, return calls, book appointments, make calls to delinquent members and hound them for money * You have to manage all social media sites and constantly engage on Facebook (EVEN WHEN YOU ARE NOT ON THE CLOCK) *SELL MEMBERSHIPS without making commission (You're told that your sales numbers do not matter, however they are monitored and closely paid attention to) you are pressured to sell memberships to the point where if someone does not want to make a 7 month commitment for $149 a month to take kickboxing classes (because they cannot afford such an expensive membership), you are reprimanded and coached on how to better pressure people into signing a contract. *Commute to staff training and meetings weekly AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE (when you're only being paid $15 an hour, the cost becomes more than just the cost of working) *"BOMB LOTS" aka drive around (at your own expense) and place ad cards on people's cars. *Take classes every week (which when I was initially hired was mandatory and UNPAID) *Be "open to feedback" from people who do not value your opinion or willingly take any constructive criticism *The benefits are barely worth having with a huge deductible and high co-pays *There is a serious lack of communication between managers and human resources *Your personal Facebook page becomes a place where you are harassed by management and expected to "initial" posts with constant contradicting information when your ARE NOT ON THE CLOCK *30 hours is considered FULL time except you are expected to give OPEN WEEKLY AVAILABILITY of 40 hours a week therefore you are prevented from making a liveable wage as an employee and are prevented from getting another job that would limit open availability *High turn-over rate of instructors which means that even as a full time instructor you are forced to work weekends because they lack qualified staff. *They hire people who have little to no experience in the fitness industry and there is NO CERTIFICATION course for instructors. Training consists on learning their kickboxing routines and being coached on how to sell memberships. Anatomy, contraindications, and how to give proper modifications for injuries/disabilities (just to name a few important things) are never taught nor discussed. *You must sign a non-compete disclosure form that attempts to limit your options in the fitness field after employment (it has been speculated that the company will sue former instructors) *There is NO EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK or guidelines, rules are constantly changing. A rule depends on what manager you are speaking with (again they use Facebook as a platform to post very important information and expect that you constantly monitor the page when you are not on the clock) *Certain business practices may be legal but unethical *Employees of the corporate headquarters, including the company's president, treat the instructors as expendable and unimportant workers who should feel privileged to work for them * Because the "instructors" are busy scrubbing toilets and the mats, and doing secretarial work, placing advertising cards on cars, hounding people for money, pressuring people to sign up for memberships, only 3 hours of a shift is spent actually instructing classes. *There is no time for instructors to give additional support to members outside of class *The class plans are recycled every few months *Instructors are required to SCREAM without a microphone over extremely loud music, no regard is given for the instructors personal health or wellbeing *As an instructor I was so stressed, barely paying my bills and consistently overworked because that my health declined greatly during my employment *The "fitness tips" we are forced to give after each class are EXTREMELY redundant and sometimes are outdated or even completely untrue * Because of the large amount of work expected to done during shift and the serious problem with consistently being understaffed, LUNCH BREAKS ARE NOT GIVEN *Taking time off is a gigantic process and can result in being reprimanded if you need off and there is no one to cover your shift due to lack of qualified long term employees *Shifts can go over so if you're only scheduled to work until a certain time, you may be there for up to an hour after *You do not get your weekly schedule with enough time to properly plan your life i.e. schedule doctors appointments etc *They reward members for posting positive reviews on review sites and I would not doubt that a lot of the positive reviews on this site were crafted by the company themselves
