Toxic environment with poor leadership

Pros

There are no pros to working at MDBC.

Cons

There are no career development opportunities or continuing training for staff, ironic given that the organisation is providing CME/CPD programs for heath professionals. Senior management lacks knowledge and experience of managerial skills, leadership, understanding of basic project financials, quality assurance, basic soft skills (communication, digital aptitude and word processing). Management is constantly criticising employees and overloading them with work and expectations that they will deliver asap despite the tight timelines and lack of resources. Management treats their employees with contempt, no empathy, no motivation and no inspiration. There are no opportunities to provide feedback to management without fear of retribution! The toxic culture has been created by management to avoid dealing with problem, and thus continues creating a psychologically unsafe environment for employees. Everyday was like walking on eggshells, not knowing how management will treat you or what they would go into a rage about. Don't bother asking for support or help or clarification, management will accuse you of being 'difficult', 'whinging', that you are stupid or incapable of doing your job. I was witness to bullying, public shaming and verbal attacks from senior management to employees. It's easy for senior management to play the blame game rather than take accountability for it themselves. The organisations focus is their bottom-line it does not matter about making a difference for health professionals only the $$$. This is disappointing given the organisation likes to provide itself on its values of integrity and accountability. If health professionals were to meet senior management they would be appalled.

Pros

Some co-workers are great and supportive. There is a sense of comradery and trench humour amongst co-workers in the project management team, as they're all up against it from senior and executive management.

Cons

MDBC Australia has a poor work culture and psychologically unsafe environment. Employees are not allowed to voice concerns or have adult mature dialogue and collaboration in improving work flow, business development, product quality and project delivery. There is no focus on wins or positive outcomes for clients, rather the opposite where project delivery, project managers, medical writers are subjected to constant negative criticism of their roles, and personal attacks from management. Management is inexperienced and it is clear they have never managed a team before, lacking empathy, inspiration and zero personality to motivate and mentor employees for longevity in the organisation. Senior management also lacks industry knowledge and qualifications in health education, digital communications and experience using basic IT/online platforms and software and accreditation processes. Senior management and the MD are only concerned about the bottom line and not creating value with high ROI for clients and HCP consumers. There is no career progression and no professional development or focus on employee engagement, development and training. Hence the high turnover of staff. Staff are made to feel useless, worthless and disposable. There is no support and no HR or HR policies to support employees. Written and verbal complaints about bullying and harrassment from management has gone to the CEO and VP of MDBC based on Canada with no reply, action or support provided back to employees. Rather than resolving this issue, executive management ignores this issue and actively seeks opportunities to fire or make redundant the employees that have filed official complaints. These actions and lack of acknowledgement fuel the toxic culture and environment making the AU office an unsafe space.
