Dignifi Ltd, Cumbria Constabulary, and A Wilderness Way worked in partnership to provide colleagues and services across Cumbria with an incredible learning experience yesterday. Julia Pennington founder of Dignifi Ltd, led a session that focused on supporting frontline practitioners to better support children in the care system and people in the criminal justice system by adopting a trauma-responsive approach. Julia was joined by Sosa Henkoma, who won Crime Fighter of the Year in 2023, Sosa spoke of his lived experiences of being an exploited child and his recovery. One of our teams recently had a Summer Festival in their garden with beats, bunting and barbecue treats. It was an amazing day, enhanced by the fantastic weather. One of our children showcased his creative talents by sharing the music he's been recording and also took one of the photos below. We love making long-lasting memories with our children.
We were treated to a fantastic afternoon session yesterday with Dr Sian Phillips, who is a psychologist based in Ontario, Canada, who works with children who have experienced abuse and neglect and the adults who care for these children. She is a certified Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapist, consultant and trainer. It was such powerful, moving and inspiring training which will continue to enable AWW to deliver exceptional care to the children we care for, through nurture and kindness. We love to have adventures with our colleagues. Earlier in May a hardy group of colleagues climbed Blencathra in the Lake District. Led by Mark our Outdoor Activity Manager and Dan one of our Outdoor Practitioners, it was a fantastic day, with warm weather, although it was a little windy at the top. Throughout the year we offer lots of outdoor activities to all our colleagues, including paddleboarding, mountain biking, ghyll scrambling, climbing and more, regardless of ability or experience. Our Outdoor Team are extremely supportive with our children and all of us at AWW. We had a brilliant Family Fun Day at our head office last weekend to show our huge appreciation for everything our colleagues do. There were mini Highland Games, Zoobidoo mesmerised the children with animals, Sharon had lots of creative play with the youngest children and we had wonderful food from Slaters Supreme, and Urban Woodfire Pizza
