Memorial Day is a time to reflect and honor brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. At Citizens, we recognize the deep sacrifices behind the freedoms we enjoy - and we remain committed to supporting the military community not only in remembrance, but through action. This year, we're proud to mark a meaningful milestone. Our colleagues have mentored over 100 veterans and military spouses through our partnership with American Corporate Partners (ACP). Colleagues are paired with a veteran protégé or military spouse for a year-long virtual mentorship to provide advice on resume writing, preparing for interviews, and career guidance to veterans and military families looking to re-enter the workforce. It's one of the many ways we strive to go the extra mile for those who've served. Learn more about how we support our own colleague veterans and their military families.
This Asian American and Pacific Islander Month, we honor and celebrate the Citizens colleagues who empower their communities with financial knowledge, creating pathways to stability and opportunity. Through trusted guidance, education and resources, they foster economic resilience and lasting impact. At the heart of our work is our commitment to building lasting relationships and strengthening trust within the communities we serve. We’re proud to share that we've been awarded the 2025 Gold Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health by Mental Health America. This prestigious recognition honors organizations that prioritize mental wellness and back it up with real, measurable action. Our overall score this year is 91% compared to the average employer score of 45%. "At Citizens, we recognize that mental health is a fundamental aspect of overall well-being. This recognition reflects not just our policies, but our people—managers, peers, and wellness champions—who create a culture where it’s okay to not be okay.” - Susan LaMonica, Chief Human Resources Officer
Our Chairman & CEO, Bruce Van Saun, was featured on Fortune's Leadership Next podcast, sharing his insights on growth and leading through uncertainty. Bruce emphasizes, "We’re big enough to matter and we’re small enough to care... size and scale aren’t the be-all and end-all. Having a bank that delivers really well for customers and has crafted a distinctive, sustainable franchise that becomes a widely admired, top-performing bank – that’s what we’ve been after." Financial education is a lifelong journey that's best started at an early age. Our colleague, Melquan, knows the impact smart financial advice can have on shaping lifelong habits. As a child, he saved by setting aside a portion of any money he made—something he still practices today. Now, he’s passionate about empowering the next generation and giving back to his community. As we celebrate Financial Literacy Month, we’re committed to helping build strong financial futures by equipping young people with valuable resources and tools. Learn more tips for kids and teens below.
To kick off Financial Literacy Month, Citizens Chairman and CEO Bruce Van Saun visited Urban Affairs Coalition in Philadelphia and announced $2.6M in financial literacy grants to support 134 nonprofits in the communities we serve. While there, he introduced Citizens Money Essentials, our new financial education curriculum. Through our funding and volunteer support we strive to help individuals and small businesses gain the skills and confidence to achieve their financial goals. Learn more about how we’re empowering our communities to succeed with financial resources.
Citizens is on a journey to prepare our colleagues for the future. We foster a culture where curiosity and an “always on” mindset for learning is encouraged and enabled. "Jobs are changing so rapidly, and we need to embrace a growth mindset to help colleagues develop and evolve a diverse set of skills that will serve them well professionally." Listen to our Chief Human Resources Officer, Susan LaMonica, on the HR Grapevine podcast to talk about our progress to a skills-based organization, and the connection to AI, leadership, and well-being.
