HCF SUMMER HEALTH REPORT AUSSIES BRACE FOR A STRESSFUL FESTIVE SEASON Tuesday, November 23, 2021 A new consumer insights report on the health of our nation has revealed 71 per cent of Australians are bracing for a stressful Christmas, with 2.6 million anticipating this Christmas will be more stressful than ever, because of pressure to make it perfect to compensate for a ‘bad year’. The report, titled Post Pandemic Trends: 2021 Summer Holiday Health Report, has been released by HCF Australia ahead of the official start of summer to help Australia’s largest not-for-profit health insurer guide its members towards the right tools and resources they need to lead healthier lives. A survey of more than 2,500 Australians was conducted by HCF to understand how people felt the pandemic impacted their mental wellbeing, both during the year and in the lead up to the festive season. The survey revealed that parents with children at home (80%) were more likely to be expecting to experience stress, pressure and/or loneliness this Christmas/holiday season; and that women were twice as likely as
Caring makes you do uncommon things. It makes us do uncommon things too. As Australia's largest not-for-profit health fund, we put people before profit, and that means putting Aussies at the heart of everything we do. Over the last 18 months, HCF employee David Lam has been volunteering with St Johns Ambulance helping test and administer COVID-19 vaccinations to the community of NSW. David assisted with providing vaccinations for Afghani refugees and described the experience as an “emotional moment because it was a 'flashback’ as I was a refugee myself”. “When you look into their eyes, you can see the trauma they suffered and the sense of losing their motherland, future and hope,” he described. “One of the refugees expressed his deepest sense of lost as he ran to the tarmac to get into a plane with only a t-shirt and shorts on him. I encouraged him and spoke of how I went from a refugee to what I am today, how Australia is a bright star in the world of darkness for people like us.”

HCF boasts successful financial year despite COVID-19 pandemic Despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Australian health insurance industry, HCF, the largest not-for-profit health fund in Australia, has boasted a 5.3% increase in its annual policy growth, 1.6% higher than the industry average. Health insurers have been in a tight spot since the pandemic hit Australia. What's worse, the Federal Government's 2020 report warned of an increasing number of young Australians ditching their private health insurance (PHI) – leaving the industry to expect participation rates to drop further due to a decline in younger premium holders. However, while the pandemic continues to impact the health insurance industry, HCF remained strong with a 7.3% growth in revenue in the current financial year (FY2021) and solid national growth with a market share increase to 11.6%.
