Neurodiversity Awareness Month was recently observed at our offices in India. Our employee led Abilities Business Resource Council organized several events and initiatives locally to raise employee awareness about neurodiversity. ✅ Led by external expert’s employees participated in an Immersive Experience event leveraging experiential learning approaches to foster a deeper understanding and empathy for neurodivergent individuals. ✅ Workshops aimed at challenging stereotypes and equip participants with practical tools to create a more inclusive and supportive workplace. ✅ A panel discussion was held with our employees who are neurodiverse. They bravely shared their experiences and perspectives. ✅ With our larger efforts of giving back to the community and supporting diverse suppliers we partnered with Blue Elephant Soapery, an entrepreneurial venture run by a woman on the autism spectrum to talk about her journey as well as showcase her work to our employees. “We are proud of our continued efforts to foster a culture of inclusion for employees with diverse abilities.” Sachin Singh (Senior Vice President, Global Securities Services). #MadeForGreater #LifeAtNT
Life at Northern Trust Maryjoce Ann Dator-Ramos’ time at Northern Trust has seen her move from Fund Accounting to Unit Pricing and includes multiple promotions from Technical Coordinator all the way to Second Vice President. Maryjoce also holds the record for becoming the very first person to move permanently from our Manila office to our Melbourne office! Her team boasts a rich diversity, comprising members from various backgrounds where employees are truly encouraged to bring their unique perspectives and ideas. “Northern Trust supports my goals outside the office by promoting a healthy work-life balance and offering flexible work arrangements that allow me to pursue my personal interests and commitments. They also provide resources such as wellness programs, mental health support, adequate time-off per year and professional development opportunities that contribute to my overall well-being and growth.” #MadeForGreater #LifeAtNT
Volunteers transform the world, which is why every Northern Trust employee can take up to two paid days of service to support their community. Last year, our employees collectively invested over 100,000 hours of service supporting 2,000 global charities. That amounts to an estimated value of $3 million of contributed time in 2023 in the communities where our employees live and work. As we wrap up Global Volunteer Month and celebrate the 50th year of National Volunteer week, we applaud everyone who generously gives their time to make a positive impact. #NVW #NTGivesBack
Last week we held our 3rd Access Northern Trust Expo for college and university students in our London office with this year's event titled 'Demystifying careers in Banking'. This event, hosted by our employee-led Working Families Business Resource Council (WFBRC), was bigger and better than last year with 40 students nominated by our charity partners and 33 Northern Trust volunteers in attendance on the day. The WFBRC continued their partnership with the The Access Project, East London Business Alliance and Circle Collective and provided students an opportunity to experience a corporate environment whilst allowing them to hear from our team about life at Northern Trust, their own varied career paths and our early career programs. Check out some of our team’s reaction to the event below….. "I really look forward to participating in this Working Families BRC event. It's so exciting to meet and hear from young people interested in learning about careers in finance. The opportunity to collaborate with partners from different business areas across London supports my efforts to be intentionally inclusive. I can't wait for next year!" Julie Killen “It was lovely to meet the students and young people – a great event, well done to the team and the council. Thank you for inviting me to participate.” Eleanor Fitzgerald “Thank you! I think the volunteers get as much out of these engagement events as the students do.” Mark Stevenson #MadeForGreater #LifeAtNT
Each year, during the month of April, our attention turns to Earth Day and sustainability. Here at Northern Trust, we are committed to exceeding environmental stewardship standards around the globe. We understand that our long-term financial prospects, and those of our clients and our global employee base, are tied to the health of the planet. We have a number of initiatives in place to support our sustainability efforts and help us achieve our goal of reaching our net zero carbon for our business operations target by 2050. #MadeForGreater #LifeAtNT
On #EarthDay and every day, we work to practice environmental stewardship around the globe. At a company level, we integrate environmental considerations into our decision-making process. At an individual level, our Sustainability Network empowers our employees to go into their communities to clean up, recycle, reuse and actively build a greener future.
We’re thrilled to share the success of our employee led Asian Leadership Business Resource Council’s events that were held across both our London and Limerick offices this week which saw employees come together to celebrate the festivals of Vaisakhi and Eid al-Fitr. Both events kicked off with insightful presentations and personal stories highlighting the significance of the festivals, along with an opportunity to sample traditional snacks and chai, whilst networking with colleagues. One of the highlights of the London office event was a Bhangra performance by members of the Bhangra Society from Queen Mary University of London, immersing the London team in the vibrant rhythm and energy of Punjabi culture. This was followed by an opportunity for our employees to learn some of the Bhangra dance moves themselves! In the Limerick office, employees stole the show by singing and playing guitar, adding to the day’s festivities with their own musical talents and celebrating with flair. A special thanks to all those involved in the organization of these events and to those who attended in great numbers on the day. We look forward to more opportunities to celebrate diversity and unity together in the future. #MadeForGreater #LifeAtNT
Nishal Dsouza was first attracted to a career at Northern Trust after a college talk. After 5 years with us, he made the decision to return to school and get his master’s degree. Once he accomplished this goal, there was only one place he wanted to be and that was back at Northern Trust due to the support structure and focus on career and skillset building. “Northern Trust encourages equal opportunities for all. This allows our team to explore different career paths. The next step in my career would be to develop the technical skills that I need to help Northern Trust get better value from the technology spend.” #MadeForGreater #LifeAtNT
Earlier this week, our EMEA employee led Advancing Professionals Business Resource Council hosted an insightful conversation with Teresa Parker, Northern Trust President – EMEA. Covering her inspiring and impressive 42-year career at Northern Trust, Teresa inspired over 400 of our next generation leaders by sharing key insights on navigating a corporate environment, her early career days all the way through to becoming an executive; identifying opportunities for career progression; career challenges and lessons learnt; and the ever-evolving landscape of Northern Trust as an organization, and the broader financial services industry. “From a career perspective, it’s important to understand what motivates you and to spend time thinking about what additional skills you need to get and how to go about getting those. Whether it’s taking a different job, seeking feedback from other people, or asking for coaching in a specific area. Those two components have been really important in my career: doing what I like, and continually seeking ways to develop my skills and leadership style.” Teresa Parker. #MadeForGreater #LifeAtNT
