Simplifying Plasmid DNA Production Plasmid DNA (pDNA) can be used as a vaccine itself as well as for the development of gene therapies or mRNA vaccines. However, its production is challenging. A critical step, alkaline cell lysis, uses an alkaline solution to break up cell walls and release pDNA. Filling a gap on the market, the Sartorius team in Slovenia developed a fully automated system for reliable and scalable alkaline lysis. The Alkalizator gives users precise control over the alkaline process, resulting in higher efficiency and quality of the pDNA. Dr. Matevž Korenč, Product Manager and member of the development team: "This optimization directly reduces the production costs, making the development of therapies for rare genetic diseases more attractive to biopharma companies – and treatments ultimately more affordable for patients." 🌍 Partnering for Better Health: Empowering Communities in East Africa 🌟 As part of its “Donations instead of Gifts” initiative, Sartorius is supporting the IMPACT project this year. Run by our long-term partner action medeor e.V., the project is dedicated to improving pharmaceutical knowledge and access to high-quality medicines in rural areas of Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. In many regions of East Africa, a shortage of trained professionals limits the availability of safe and effective medicines. The IMPACT project tackles these issues by: ✅ Training 120 healthcare workers across 53 facilities. ✅ Enabling 9 master trainers to expand knowledge and skills throughout the region. With this, the project aims to ensure patients receive the right medicines in the right dosage at the right time and empower communities to manage treatments effectively on their own.
At Sartorius, we empower scientists and engineers to simplify and accelerate progress in lifescience and bioprocessing, enabling the development of new and better therapies and more affordable medicine. Together, let’s look back at the year 2024 and explore how Sartorius is part of the solution and how we drive innovation to create better health for more people: - Sartorius and TheWell Bioscience Partner to Enable More Accurate Predictions in Drug Discovery: https://sar.to/nhcrs - Sartorius Collaborates With Sanofi to Commercialize End-To-End Platform for Downstream Process Intensification: https://sar.to/uy74a - Overcoming Animal Testing with Advanced Cell Models: https://sar.to/z3qxk - Sartorius to Advance Drug Discovery and Manufacturing With AI in Collaboration With NVIDIA: https://sar.to/nu5xd - How Purification Experts Make Novel Drugs Safe for Use: https://sar.to/9jjm5
How purification experts make novel drugs safe for use with a “super-effective sponge” Before life-saving vaccines and novel treatments like gene therapies can reach patients, they must meet the highest standards of purity. This means removing impurities, such as residual proteins, DNA or media, through complex, time-consuming purification processes like filtration and chromatography. For large molecules, this is particularly challenging. That’s where Sartorius BIA Separations in Slovenia comes in. The team of experts develops innovative technologies, including what they call a “super-efficient sponge”, to simplify the purification of such large molecules. Separating right from wrong quickly and efficiently, they help customers achieve the purity needed to get new treatments to the market. Advancing circular plastic use in life sciences 🔄 The recycling of sterile single-use plastics in life science research is a challenge. Now Sartorius and Covestro successfully tested the potential of closed-loop recycling of small-scale bioreactors, proving that the recycled polycarbonate can match the quality of virgin materials. The study is a step forward on the pathway to achieving more circularity in our products. Nevertheless, we are facing further challenges: How can infrastructure and processes be optimized to create sustainable solutions that meet industry's strict quality and safety requirements? Magali Barbaroux, Corporate Research Fellow at Sartorius, delves into this complex journey on the Sartorius blog. Discover why the industry's unique needs make recycling a challenge and why there's no one-size-fits-all solution: https://sar.to/z2qmj
