We recently attended the Data + AI Summit 2022 where our Acting Head of Data Platform Phillip Hampton and Senior Product Manager Alvin Teh did an incredible job co-presenting. Alongside our Databricks partners, they spoke about how applying state-of-the-art engineering practices in Databricks is possible; practices such as infrastructure as code, embedding data quality through the data lifecycle, and embracing DAMA data guidelines - all of which resulted in a fundamental improvement in developer and engineering delivery confidence. We were immensely proud to call them our own, especially after hearing the overwhelmingly positive feedback they received on their presentation being one of the most informative and entertaining of the day.
We are proud to announce that we have reached Level 2 of our Project F certification. This is an important step forward for us, and solidifies VGW’s commitment to achieving gender-balanced technology teams. In accordance with Project F’s road map to help close the gender gap within technology, VGW has confirmed the milestones we will be working on to create a more inclusive workplace for everyone.
Last week our Data Science, Analytics, and Data Engineering teams participated in an AWS hosted machine learning event called DeepRacer. Our teams learned about Machine and Reinforcement Learning by building and training model cars using a virtual 3D racing simulator. The teams put their models to test in real life with a 1/18th scale autonomous car on a seventeen metre race track. Congratulations to our top three race time holders (fastest time once around the track): 1st - Raghu Valusa 9.1 seconds 2nd - Darren Soo 9.9 seconds 3rd - Luke Clapson 10.6 seconds
