How is race or ethnicity talked about at Apple?

Retail will never be worth what they pay you or the stocks

      Team lead
      Former employee

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

benefits, perks, intelligent coworkers, discounts, creativity, professional development, diversity of coworkers

      Cons

abusive customers, bad leadership, lack of consistency in culture and operations across locations & corporate support, gossipy coworkers, hypocritical leadership, encouraged workaholism, zero accountability for bad leadership, no direct access to HRBP, terrible coworkers are tolerated for way too long because it's incredibly hard to get fired from Apple, sexism and racism from customers and leadership, outrageous KPIs, unreasonable expectations on even the lowest level employee, complacency, bad internal app UX, boring & redundant training

      Leadership Concerns

      Business outlook

      Pros

The company offers excellent benefits and fosters a strong, inclusive culture that supports both personal and professional growth. Their product offerings are well-regarded in the industry, making it a rewarding place to work for those passionate about Apple products.

      Cons

Compensation is below industry standards, and there’s a noticeable lack of diversity within senior leadership, which remains predominantly white. Leadership decisions often seem to be influenced more by personal relationships than by merit or expertise, and many senior managers appear out of touch with the day-to-day challenges teams face. Innovation is stifled, with an excessive focus on administrative tasks like timecard tracking rather than strategic growth or creative solutions. Overall, the environment lacks inclusivity and forward-thinking leadership..

Particular, Not good for Early Career

      Engineering program manager

      Pros

Build exciting features. Work with really smart people.

      Cons

No career development. Very small "post-grad" population, makes it difficult for people to take you seriously. Most people at Apple are Apple veterans, lack of diversity at the company.

Good Benefits, Not So Great Politics

      Pros

Overall benefits were great, you got a lot of discounts with different companies. Pay was somewhat decent. You get to meet a great, diverse group of people to work with. You get to learn a lot of new skills in tech.

      Cons

Overtime, management became micromanaging. Favoritism gets to an all time high. The mental health of employees is extremely pushed. 80% of your life and time is absorbed by the company. Micro-aggressions are definitely apart of the culture in the retail stores, even though they claim to be zero tolerance. People of a certain color get penalized swiftly with the harshest consequences, while certain others are given an infinite amount of chances for the same offense or worse.

      Great Benefits, Bad Culture

      Pros

Amazing benefit package, great stock options. A chance to see behind the curtain at the worlds largest tech company, diversity of job experience if you push for it.

      Cons

A culture of groupthink and slavish, uncritical devotion to the brand. Internal promotion is completely detached from competency, management are macchiavellian schemers, while simulatenously managing to be incompetent at basic tasks. Diversity is implemented in the lower levels of the company, while the corporate team is predominantly white middle aged.

Great Perks, But Culture Varies by Team—Community Outside Your Org Is Key

      Business outlook

      Pros

Incredible benefits (healthcare, wellness, employee discounts, parental leave, etc.) Smart, creative colleagues and the opportunity to work on meaningful, impactful products Lots of internal resources for growth if you have a supportive manager Active employee groups and networks that create real community and belonging Prestige of working for a globally recognized brand

      Cons

Your experience is entirely dependent on your manager and team culture I’ve witnessed racial bias and favoritism in hiring and promotion processes Retaliation against employees who spoke up about unethical practices did occur on my former team Lack of transparency in some orgs and inconsistent application of company values Leadership can be unapproachable or unwilling to address team-level issues

Use it for the benefits, don't let it use you

      Pros

Insurance benefits are amazing Discounts on apple products are amazing Staying on the cutting edge of the latest and greatest at apple is amazing You end up working with the best people on the planet.

      Cons

Managers are human and they have intense bonus contracts that make them back stabby. Most Apple customers are the worst on the planet. They are entitled. They lie, cheat and try to force you into giving them everything under the sun. They are racist, sexist, and homophobic. They make women, people of color and trans people repeat everything 2- 3 times affecting their metrics that give them raises. This causes women, people of color and LGBTIA+ people to make less and take more abuse than their white, cis, heterosexual male counterparts. No one has a regular schedule. No one gets 2 days off to rest and relax unless they are on vacation. Clopenings are a weekly experience.

      Pros

Good benefits and perks, especially with regards to healthcare, dental and life insurance.

      Cons

Ever-increasing demands from management, in addition to needy customers, made this too difficult to do day-in and out. This got worse when Apple's quarterly results didn't meet expectations. There is a focus on numbers, rather than actually servicing people well, which I did enjoy doing. Promotions were also dependent on how well managers liked you. People of colour conveniently were always singled out, a barely any were in management.

      Senior software engineer

      Pros

Stable, no large scale lay offs. Apple products discount. Ok benefits. Good work life balance.

      Cons

Pay isn't competitive if you stay in the company for a long time. My team has poor diversity, dominated by a group of people from certain country. Hard to get promoted. Good opportunities are always theirs. There're politics game to push you out.

      Pros

-great benefits -good location -hybrid work schedule -great pay, not too difficult -tons of career paths

      Cons

-if you get the wrong manager & they don’t see you as bubbly and extra friendly, they’ll make your life miserable and invent issues that don’t exist -not a ton of diversity in the workforce -for a company worth billions, raises were still under 5% annually, no bonuses for the team I was on, and the perks (discounts, 3rd party & in-house, were fewer and fewer) and the stock gifting was totally dependent on your manager
