If you came here looking for potential red flags prior to committing and investing your time, talent and passion, I believe these reviews paint an accurate picture. Often negative reviews capture individual personality conflicts or grievances about policies that were known at the time of hire. Most all of the reviews here align to paint an accurate picture of the company culture and daily work environment. Measured, strategic and disciplined leadership has unapologetically been run out or over by ego driven narcissists that want “yes” people to carry out ill timed, unnecessary, and unplanned projects while key contributors are burned out from completing multiple “once a year” projects concurrently with little to no recognition, reward or growth and no end in sight for meaningless projects while projects required to maintain the core infrastructure are ignored. You are simply told this is life is Private Equity. This leadership from Brookfield cares about their money, not building a great renewable business, team, and place to work as they try to sell recruits.

I would strongly caution anyone considering a job at Deriva Energy. In my experience, the company culture is extremely poor and the work environment is toxic. Leadership often fails to support employees, and there is a pervasive lack of transparency and accountability from senior management. Many experienced colleagues have left due to how they were treated, and morale is very low. Work‑life balance is almost nonexistent—working nights, weekends, and even during PTO is expected, and there is little respect for your time outside of work. The workload is unreasonable, teams are understaffed, and turnover is high, which creates constant pressure and stress. Communication is poor, and feedback or concerns are often ignored or dismissed. Management is described by many employees as micromanaging and rigid, and career development opportunities are minimal. Raises and promotions feel non‑existent or misaligned with effort and performance. Overall, my experience was that Deriva Energy is unsupportive, overworked, and unwelcoming. If you value respect, development, and a healthy workplace, this company was not a good fit for me.

Honestly, I can give no pros at this time.

This company has had a significant negative impact on my morale and overall wellbeing. I entered this role as a strong performer, but over time the management environment left me feeling discouraged, undervalued, and frequently talked down to in ways that affected both my confidence and my health. There is a consistent perception that leadership and HR tend to support management decisions even when employees raise concerns about toxic behavior. Senior leadership also feels largely inaccessible, with limited engagement or communication with employees outside the management layer. Compensation communication has also been frustrating. Merit increases have been 1.8 percent in back to back years, and advancement opportunities appear heavily dependent on alignment with a direct manager rather than performance alone. When alignment with a manager is lacking, promotion opportunities become limited and bonus outcomes may be affected. Communication around compensation decisions has been especially poor. This year employees did not receive information about bonus outcomes until two days before payout. More broadly, key approvals and decisions are often communicated at the last minute, creating unnecessary uncertainty and making it difficult to plan or feel confident about expectations. Overall, the lack of transparency, limited leadership accessibility, and unclear advancement pathways create an environment that makes it difficult for employees to stay motivated and feel supported in their work

401k, great people, opportunity, future growth, stepping stone into renewables.

Constant headcount pressure, layoffs, Brookfield culture already starting to trickle down (don’t be surprised to see a mandated 5 days back in to office soon). New Brookfield CFO has stated he wants “farmers and fishermen working for him that need to work until the job is done in order to be able to feed their family”. Also, has stated “everyone here wants a Ferrari, but we can afford an VW (in regards to staffing, systems, tools, etc., but then of course expects Ferrari performance). Also, to quote Brookfield’s CEO “ A recession always helps bring people back to their senses”. Take that what you will… “tone from the top” combined with awful transition of systems, lacking HR/staffing, & fear based leadership and you have a pretty rough place to work. The original team is great, but not given the tools or staffing to succeed. Hopefully things will get better, but I doubt it. Brookfield will keep trying to run as lean as possible, while not realizing that trying to maximize short term cash flow won’t actually result in maximizing long-term value.

Good 401(k) plan and decent pay

This company is a sinking ship. I’m writing to throw you a raft—whether you’re thinking about joining or trying to decide if it’s time to leave. The culture is hostile, insular, and unnecessarily secretive. Management and coworkers routinely ice people out of conversations and behave as if we’re working for the federal government—everything is treated like classified information, even when transparency is necessary to do your job well. There is a pervasive “country club” atmosphere that you don’t sign up for and are never truly welcomed into. I personally experienced microaggressions that were brushed off or normalized, reinforcing the feeling that if you don’t fit a very specific mold, you’re on the outside looking in. If you’re looking for annual cost-of-living adjustments, look elsewhere. Compensation does not keep pace with reality, and raises are not aligned with effort or performance. Hard work is routinely ignored. People who do the bare minimum are promoted year after year, while high performers are left stagnant with no clear path forward. Career development is essentially nonexistent—if your goal is growth, this is not the place. If you’re a woman and want to join a boys’ club filled with mansplaining, this is the place for you. If you enjoy being undermined by coworkers, having your ideas dismissed, and watching others take credit for your work for personal gain, you’ll fit right in. Coworkers regularly take credit for others’ work, and leadership either enables it or looks the other way. The audacity of leadership pursuing a “Great Place to Work” designation while employees are overworked, underpaid, and openly unhappy is staggering. The disconnect between leadership’s self-image and employees’ lived experience could not be more obvious. If you want to remain stagnant, underappreciated, and excluded, this company may be a great fit. If you value transparency, equity, growth, and basic respect, consider this your warning.

Great 401k Decent pay Opportunity to make a difference

Zero work/life balance. Working weekends, nights and while on PTO are all expected here. Insane timelines and expectations. Continued reckless behavior from multiple levels of management. Turn over of employees here is alarming and not stopping. RTO 4x a week "Start up culture" with none of the benefits of being in a start-up. Not very generous PTO policy, but you probably won't be able to use it, so it doesn't matter!
