Great benefits but technical culture is not what I thought

      Mine geologist
      Current employee
      Perth, Western Australia
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Fantastic benefits with generous pay - Living conditions at camp are variable but usually good - Plenty of opportunity for both upwards and sideways career mobility

      Cons

      - Technical culture is poor and not what it used to be from the 1990s like I was led to believe - Teams are often understaffed in the geology space and you will be required to work across a few different functions - Training and upskilling is dependent on bosses to prioritise and the quality of said training is highly variable.

Great Pay and Safety Culture, but Limited Growth and Job Stability.

      Anonymous employee
      Former employee
      Magna, UT
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Working at Rio Tinto Kennecott comes with strong pay, excellent benefits, and a well-established safety culture, which many employees value highly. The work is technically engaging, and the company has a solid reputation in Salt Lake City, making it an attractive employer.

      Cons

Career advancement can be slow, management communication is often inconsistent, and layoffs tied to market cycles create some instability. While work-life balance can be good depending on the role, there are occasional cultural challenges and mixed experiences with unions and benefits.

      Excellent company

      Electrical maintenance planner
      Former employee

      Pros

Work management process is fantastic, excellent development opportunities, variety of training, kind and caring leadership team. Company has excellent values and focus on them.. Employee benefits are excellent and the best I’ve seen

      Cons

Roster was the only issue I had which was fifo 4day on 3 off 5 days on 2 off.. as a fifo roster I found myself balancing my work life balance difficult. Was extremely tired all the time.. and constantly on an airplane..

Good company culture, a bit old fashioned

      Business analyst
      Former employee
      Shanghai, Shanghai
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good environment, Respect employee, Word life balance

      Cons

Old fashioned leadership, no good career development for young people

      Not Bad

      Anonymous contractor
      Current contractor
      Perth, Western Australia
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Work from home - really helpful for appointments and life style balance including just getting more work done as in the office it can be hard with so many people pulling you away Contracting Salary is good

      Cons

Not recognized much because you are not an FTE No bonus even though you do just as much work, sometimes more than an FTE No benefits either No career progression plan or growth opportunities Burn you out though with the heavy workloads but always trying to save money so wont get additional help when it is needed
