      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Apple in Feb 2012

      Interview

First round interview and I expect to be called back. It took forever to schedule the interview, the first round was only to see if I was a cultural fit. They don't have a job description, there are no specifics. It could have been done on the phone. It was a "touchy/feely" experience and as a fairly senior person, I felt it was largely a waste of my time and mostly about the ego of the person interviewing. The next interview will actually be about my work as opposed to my attitudes. Actual quote: "Statistically you have a better chance of being accepted by Stanford than of being hired by Apple." Truly, the height of arrogance. If the economy were better I wouldn't even consider working with such kool-aid drinking clones.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What experience are you most proud of? In your background where did you make a mistake or blunder?

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Apple (San Francisco, CA) in Sept 2023

      Interview

There were about 5 rounds of interviews with several members of a large team. The last interview was with the head of the department. Each interviewer asked questions about how the person in the role would interact with them or their team. All the questions were open-ended, and many of them were behavioral. At the beginning of the interview process, I was asked to create an example using a specific prompt and told to be prepared to defend or explain my design decisions. The last interview was challenging because I was asked questions about qualifications not listed in the job description, so it was difficult to be prepared. It helps if you know something about UX and UX writing.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How do you handle working with challenging individuals? How do you communicate with other teams on a project? Tell me about something you've worked on outside of work that you're most proud of? How do you stay up to date in the field? Walk me through your process for designing the prompt. What is your heuristic approach to writing content for end-users? Additional UX writing-related questions about the example I was asked to create.

      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Apple

      Interview

Discriminatingly and they hung up when I told them I had a speech impairment. I had already been through several layers of interviews. When I got the final one, I made a mistake and told them I was disabled and they stopped asking me questions and just ended the zoom call as fast as possible.

      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Apple (Cupertino, CA)

      Interview

Generally professional. They flew me down and I met with the team. The position was less about design and more about development (IDs will know what I mean by that). I learned from the IDs already on the team that there was very little needs analysis, and very little access to the learners.

      Question 1

In terms of compensation, do you prefer a higher salary or stock/stock options?
