I started by submitting my resume and cover letter online in early April. A couple of weeks later, I was sent an e-mail from a recruiter providing a little more information on the role and asking to provide my availability for a phone interview. I provided dates for that week, but never received a reply.
A couple weeks later, I got an e-mail from a different recruiter saying he was forwarded my information from the first recruiter... He gave me a specific date + time (early May) and asked if it worked with my schedule. It did, so I accepted. When I asked if there was any way in particular I should prepare for the interview, he told me no and that I would be having a discussion with an IT Infrastructure Engineer on the team.
When I had my phone interview, it was very relaxed and comfortable. I was asked about what I was learning in school, projects I had done, etc. Sometimes one topic would catch his interest and he would ask me to go more in depth on it. All in all it was an engaging and positive experience, and when I asked questions about the company it made me really interested in working there. At the end of the screening, he told me I "was a very strong candidate" and he didn't come across any red flags with me. I was surprised to receive such outright positive feedback, but the interviewer's reasoning was that he didn't want me restless for weeks "wondering how I did." I was excited, totally expecting to get an in-person interview based on that feedback.
A couple weeks later, I got a call from the (first) recruiter wanting to confirm that I had had my phone interview, and if not, to give a time I could have it. I confirmed that yes, I had my phone interview, and was left extremely confused as to why they had to ask me. Shouldn't you be keeping track of that??
I didn't hear anything for weeks. I e-mailed the (first) recruiter at the beginning of June, asking for a status update and reiterating my interest in the position and the reasons why I would be a great fit. I never received a response from him, and it wasn't until a FULL MONTH LATER at the beginning of July that the position was filled. At this point I had already accepted an offer from Amazon. So whatever.
TL;DR really cool company which would have been my first choice to work as an intern, but awful interview experience. The recruiter was extremely unhelpful and disorganized. My interviewer totally led me on by telling me I was a strong candidate but in the end I didn't even get an in-person interview.
